Volvo EV Charging Cables

Volvo EV charging cables compatible with current and recent Volvo electric vehicles. All current UK Volvo EVs use the universal Type 2 (Mode 3) connector — same cable as nearly every modern EV sold in the UK. Older Volvo models may use Type 1; check your charge port shape before ordering. We stock 5m to 30m lengths in 7kW and 22kW ratings, with optional Mode 2 (3-pin granny) cables for emergency charging.

Volvo's UK EV range — EX30, EX40 (formerly XC40 Recharge), EC40 (formerly C40 Recharge), EX90, EM90 — sits on the Geely SEA platform shared with Polestar. Type 2 AC + CCS DC universally. The EX30 added V2L; the EX90 inherits it. Conservative engineering, premium pricing.

Connector spec by model

  • EX30 (2024+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. V2L 3.6kW. 150kW DC peak.
  • EX40 / XC40 Recharge (2020+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 150kW DC. No V2L.
  • EC40 / C40 Recharge (2022+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 150kW DC. No V2L.
  • EX90 (2025+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. V2L on selected trims. 250kW DC.
  • EM90 (2025+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 200kW DC. People-carrier MPV variant.
  • XC60 / XC90 Recharge (PHEV) — Type 2, 7.4kW AC.

EX30 V2L — practical use cases

The Volvo EX30 supports V2L at 3.6kW from the Type 2 charge port. Compatible with our V2L adapter range. The EX30's 64kWh battery gives plenty of V2L runtime — about 16-18 hours of running a fridge + lights + laptop chargers before needing to leave reserve for driving home.

AC charging speed at home

Every Volvo EV caps at 11kW AC.

  • 11kW three-phase: ~45 miles/hour. 80kWh battery overnight in 7 hours.
  • 7.4kW single-phase: ~25-30 miles/hour. Same battery in 11 hours.

Length recommendations

Volvo charge ports are at the rear-left on every model. For typical UK driveways: 5-10m Type 2 cable.

The EX30 — small car, full charging features

The EX30 is one of the smaller premium EVs on the UK market but ships with V2L (which most premium EVs from BMW, Mercedes, Audi don't have). At £33,795 RRP, it's also one of the cheapest. If you want V2L and don't want to go into Hyundai/Kia/MG territory, the EX30 is the answer.

PHEV models — different cable

Volvo's plug-in hybrids (XC60 Recharge, XC90 Recharge) cap at 7.4kW AC. A 7.4kW cable is the right spec. Anything higher throttles.

Smart-tariff integration

Volvo Cars app handles basic scheduling. Integrates with Polestar / Geely services. For dynamic Octopus Intelligent integration, pair with Ohme; for solar-PV pair with MyEnergi Zappi.

FAQs

10m suits most UK home setups. 5m if your wallbox is right next to where you park. 15-25m for awkward driveway layouts.
Match to your wallbox. UK home wallboxes are mostly 7kW (32A single-phase). 22kW only relevant if you have a three-phase supply.
