Overview

Two very different cars wear the XC40 badge, and the boot lid does not make it obvious which one is sitting on your drive.

The fully electric version, the XC40 Recharge, since renamed EX40, has an 11kW onboard AC charger. The plug-in hybrid, badged T4 or T5 Recharge, stops nearer 3.7kW, because its battery is a fraction of the size and there is nothing to gain from pushing it harder. Both use the same Type 2 socket, so one cable physically fits either. What changes is how much of that cable's capacity the car can actually use.

With the electric car and an ordinary single-phase home wallbox, a 32A lead draws the full 7.4kW a UK house can supply and refills the battery overnight. A three-phase cable only repays the extra outlay if the property has a three-phase supply, or you lean on 22kW public posts. With the plug-in hybrid, a 16A lead genuinely is everything the car will take, and spending beyond that buys capacity you will never see back.

Which cable to choose

  • Type 2 to Type 2. What nearly every XC40 owner wants, for home wallboxes and public posts alike. 5m works where the wallbox is beside the parking space; 10m covers a charger on the far wall, or a bay with the post on the wrong side.
  • Type 2 to 3-pin. A Mode 2 lead for a household socket. Slow, and not intended as your main charger, but worth having in the boot.

Every cable we sell is CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated against British weather, and carries a two-year warranty.

Features

  • One socket, two very different cars

The electric XC40 Recharge and the T4 and T5 plug-in hybrid both use the same Type 2 socket, so one cable physically fits either. What changes is how much of that cable's capacity the car can actually use.

  • 32A single phase for the electric car

With the electric XC40 on an ordinary single-phase home wallbox, a 32A lead draws the full 7.4kW a UK house can supply and refills the battery overnight.

  • 16A is genuinely enough for the hybrid

The plug-in hybrid stops nearer 3.7kW because its battery is a fraction of the size. Spending beyond a 16A lead buys capacity you will never see back.

  • Four lengths

5m works where the wallbox is beside the parking space. 10m covers a charger on the far wall, or a bay with the post on the wrong side. 15m and 20m are there for longer runs.

  • Certified and weather rated

CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated against British weather, and carries a two-year warranty.

Installation

  1. 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
  2. 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
  3. 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
  4. 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

FAQs

How do I tell which XC40 I have?
The boot lid does not make it obvious. The fully electric car is the XC40 Recharge, since renamed EX40, and has an 11kW onboard AC charger. The plug-in hybrid is badged T4 or T5 Recharge and stops nearer 3.7kW.
Which power rating should I buy?
For the electric car, the 32amp single-phase lead, which pulls the full 7.4kW a UK house can supply. For the plug-in hybrid, the 16amp lead is everything the car will take.
Is the three-phase 22kW cable worth it?
Only if the property has a three-phase supply, or you lean on 22kW public posts. On a standard single-phase house it will not charge any faster than the 32A single-phase lead.
What is the Type 2 to 3 Pin cable for?
It is a Mode 2 lead for a household socket, running at 2.3kW on the adjustable 6amp to 12amp setting. Slow, and not intended as your main charger, but worth having in the boot.
What length do most XC40 owners choose?
5m if the wallbox sits beside the parking space, 10m if it is on the far wall or you rely on public bays where the post can end up on the wrong side of the car. Measure the run before ordering.
How quickly will it arrive, and what if it is wrong?
Orders placed before 4pm are dispatched the same day, UK delivery is free next working day on orders over £150, and you have 30 days to return it.

What customers say about us

  • First class service

First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
