Choosing the right cable for your Bentley
Bentley's plug-in hybrids have grown considerably. The current Bentayga and Flying Spur carry batteries larger than some early full EVs, which makes the charging conversation less trivial than it used to be on a plug-in hybrid.
Connector spec by model
- Bentayga Hybrid (current): Type 2. Around 25.9kWh battery. Around 7.4kW AC.
- Flying Spur Hybrid / Speed: Type 2. Around 25.9kWh. Around 7.4kW AC.
- Earlier Bentayga Hybrid: Type 2. Around 18kWh. Lower onboard charger.
Twenty-six kilowatt hours is a real charge
At 7.4kW that is around three and a half hours, and it delivers enough electric range for most local journeys without starting the engine. Owners who charge nightly genuinely use the electric side of these cars, which is not true of every plug-in hybrid.
The 32amp lead is the ceiling
Nothing in the Bentley plug-in range accepts more than about 7.4kW, so a 32amp single-phase cable supplies everything the car can take. The 22kW three-phase lead has no application here regardless of the property's supply.
Cars driven by more than one person
Where a car is used by a driver as well as its owner, the cable is the component most likely to be left behind, misplaced or wound badly. A second lead kept permanently with the vehicle costs less than the disruption of discovering the first one is elsewhere.
Length recommendations
10m minimum. The Flying Spur is over five metres long and the charge port sits on the rear wing. Compare across our Type 2 charging cables.
