Jeep owners tend to ask about charging away from home, and the honest answer is that a Type 2 lead plus a Mode 2 granny charger covers almost everything. The Type 2 cable handles wallboxes and public AC posts. The granny charger plugs into an ordinary 13A socket and adds charge slowly but reliably, which is fine overnight at a cottage or a relative's house. Order before 4pm for same-day dispatch.

Choosing the right cable for your Jeep

Jeep's UK plug-in range covers two quite different things under one badge. The Avenger is a small electric crossover on a Stellantis platform. The 4xe models are plug-in hybrids with small batteries and, in the Renegade and Compass, an unusually slow onboard charger. Which one you own decides everything about the cable.

The Renegade and Compass are 3.7kW cars

This is the number that surprises people. A Renegade 4xe accepts 3.7kW no matter what you plug into it, so the 16amp cable is not a compromise on these models, it is the full extent of what the car can use. An 11.4kWh battery at 3.7kW is roughly three hours from empty, which is a comfortable evening charge.

The Avenger is the one that uses a bigger cable

At 11kW onboard and 54kWh of battery, the Avenger will use all of a 32amp single-phase supply and fill in around seven hours. If you have three-phase at the property the 22kW lead would let it reach its 11kW ceiling, but on an ordinary British single-phase home the 32amp cable is the sensible everyday choice.

Wrangler owners charge in awkward places

The Wrangler 4xe is more likely than most to be parked on gravel, on a slope, or somewhere the wallbox was never designed to reach. Buy longer than the measurement suggests, and note that all our Type 2 leads are rated to be driven over.

The 16amp cable. Both accept 3.7kW, so a higher-rated lead cannot make them charge faster.
How long does a 4xe take to charge?
