Overview

The EX30 is the small Volvo that undercut most of the range on price without giving up much of the useful part. It charges through a Type 2 socket with an 11kW onboard charger.

Eleven kilowatts needs three phases of electricity, and British houses almost never have them. On a normal home wallbox the EX30 will pull 7.4kW and be full by morning, so a 32A single-phase lead is the sensible ceiling for most owners. The three-phase cable earns its keep in two situations only: you have three-phase at the property, or you genuinely live off 22kW public posts.

Choosing your lead

  • Type 2 to Type 2. The cable you will use every day, at home and in public. 5m if the charger is beside your parking space, 10m if it is on the far wall or you rely on public bays.
  • Type 2 to 3-pin. A Mode 2 lead for a household socket. At 2.3kW it is slow and not a main charger, but it is a useful thing to have in the boot.

Every cable we sell is CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated against British weather, and carries a two-year warranty. Most EX30 owners want the 7.4kW single-phase lead.

FAQs

What cable does the EX30 need?
A Type 2 lead. For most owners that means the 32amp single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, which is the everyday lead at home and in public.
The car says 11kW, so why buy a 7.2kW cable?

When is the 22kW three-phase cable worth buying?
In two situations only: you have three-phase at the property, or you genuinely live off 22kW public posts. If neither applies, the money is better spent on the right length.
Do I need the 3-pin cable as well?
It is optional. The Type 2 to 3 Pin lead is a Mode 2 cable for a household socket. At 2.3kW it is slow and not a main charger, but it is a useful thing to have in the boot.
5m or 10m?
5m if the charger is beside your parking space, 10m if it is on the far wall or you use public bays where the post can be awkwardly placed. If you are between the two, take the longer one.
What is covered by the warranty?
Every cable we sell carries a 24 month manufacturer warranty, on top of CE and TUV certification and an IP55 weather rating. Returns are 30 days.
