Overview

The EX90 carries one of the largest batteries Volvo has put in a road car, and that changes how much the cable you pick actually matters.

With a battery near 111kWh, a 32A Type 2 lead at 7.4kW takes most of a night to go from low to full. A 16A lead at 3.6kW does not finish the job inside an off-peak window, so on this car the cheaper lead is a false economy.

The onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW, which only matters on three phases. If the property has a three-phase supply, the 22kW cable is one of the few cases where the extra outlay repays itself.

Which cable to choose

  • Type 2 to Type 2. 10m is the sensible default on a car this size. 5m works only if the wallbox is right beside the charge port, which sits on the rear flank.
  • Type 2 to 3-pin. A Mode 2 lead for a household socket. Slow, and not intended as your main charger, but worth having in the boot.

Every cable we sell is CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated against British weather, and carries a two-year warranty.

Features

  • A big battery rewards the 32A lead

At around 111kWh, a 7.4kW charge rate uses most of an overnight window. A 16A lead at 3.6kW will not get there.

  • One of the few cars where three-phase earns its keep

If the property has a genuine three-phase supply, the 11kW onboard charger and the 22kW lead together cut hours off a full charge.

  • Charge port is on the rear flank

Measure from the wallbox to the rear quarter, not the front. A 5m lead can come up short on a drive laid out for a smaller car.

  • Certified and weather rated

CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated against British weather, and carries a two-year warranty.

Installation

  1. 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
  2. 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
  3. 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
  4. 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

FAQs

Is a 16amp cable enough for the EX90?
Not really. With a battery around 111kWh a 3.6kW charge rate will not fill it inside an overnight off-peak window. The 32amp lead at 7.4kW is the right choice.
Would the 22kW three-phase cable help?
Yes, if the property has a three-phase supply. The EX90 takes 11kW AC, so unlike most cars it can genuinely use more than a single-phase house can give it.
What length do EX90 owners need?
10m more often than not. The car is long and the charge port is on the rear flank, so the run from the wallbox is further than it looks.
What is the Type 2 to 3 Pin cable for?
It is a Mode 2 lead for a household socket, running at 2.3kW on the adjustable 6amp to 12amp setting. Slow, and not intended as your main charger, but worth having in the boot.
How quickly will it arrive, and what if it is wrong?
Orders placed before 4pm are dispatched the same day, UK delivery is free next working day on orders over £150, and you have 30 days to return it.

What customers say about us

  • First class service

First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
