Choosing the right cable for your Cadillac
Cadillac returned to Britain as an electric brand, and like every American marque selling here it carries a connector difference that trips people up. European cars are fitted with Type 2, not the socket used on the same models in North America.
Connector spec by model
- Lyriq (2024+ Europe): Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. Around 102kWh battery. 190kW DC.
- Optiq / Vistiq: Type 2 + CCS in Europe as they arrive.
American accessories do not apply
Search results for Cadillac charging are dominated by the US market, where the cars use a different standard and where 240-volt home charging behaves differently from a British 230-volt single-phase supply. None of that transfers. In the UK a Lyriq takes the same lead as any other Type 2 car.
A 102kWh battery on a British supply
At 7.4kW that is around fourteen hours from empty. The Lyriq is firmly an overnight car, and the 32amp single-phase lead is the everyday cable. The 11kW onboard charger only becomes relevant on three-phase power, which very few homes have.
Long car, awkward reach
The Lyriq is over five metres long. A wallbox positioned for a hatchback can end up a surprising distance from the charge port, and a cable at full stretch is one that gets dragged over bodywork. Buy longer than the measurement suggests.
Length recommendations
10m as a minimum, 15m if the wallbox is not beside the parking space. Compare across our Type 2 charging cables.
