Choosing the right cable for your Xpeng
Xpeng builds around 800-volt architecture and markets very fast DC charging. That is genuine, and it is also entirely separate from the cable you buy here, which is a distinction worth making early because it decides how much you should spend.
Connector spec by model
- G6 (2024+): Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 66kWh or 87.5kWh battery. Very high DC peak on the 800V system.
- G9: Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. Larger battery, same connector.
Rapid DC and home AC are different systems
The headline charging figures come from a DC rapid charger, which arrives with its own tethered cable attached to the unit. You never buy a cable for that. What you buy is the AC lead for home wallboxes and public posts, and on the AC side an Xpeng is an ordinary 11kW car like most of the market.
What that means at home
An 87.5kWh G6 on a single-phase 7.4kW supply is around twelve hours from empty. That is a full night. Owners with three-phase can reach the car's 11kW ceiling and cut it to about eight, but British houses almost never have three-phase, so the 32amp single-phase lead is the everyday cable for nearly everyone.
Big battery, so length is worth getting right
A car you plug in for twelve hours is one you want to connect without dragging the cable or straining it round a corner. On a large SUV the charge port often sits further from the wall than expected. Measure with the car parked as it normally sits.
