Overview

The XC60 Recharge is on more UK drives than any other Volvo plug-in hybrid, and the question that comes up most is not which cable but how fast the car will take it.

The answer changed partway through production. Cars up to 2021 have a 3.7kW onboard AC charger, and a 16A Type 2 lead covers that completely. From 2022 the larger 18.8kWh battery arrived alongside a 6.4kW charger, and reaching that needs a 32A lead.

Either way the battery is small by electric-car standards, so a full charge is a couple of hours rather than a night. What matters more is having a lead long enough to reach without stretching.

Which cable to choose

  • Type 2 to Type 2. 5m covers most home wallboxes on an XC60-sized drive. 10m if the charger is on the far wall or you top up in public bays.
  • Type 2 to 3-pin. A Mode 2 lead for a household socket. Slow, and not intended as your main charger, but worth having in the boot.

Every cable we sell is CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated against British weather, and carries a two-year warranty.

If you need a lead for a different Volvo, start from our Volvo charging cables page.

Features

  • Which lead depends on the model year

Cars up to 2021 take 3.7kW, so a 16amp lead is everything they will use. From 2022 the 18.8kWh battery brought a 6.4kW charger, and that needs a 32amp lead to deliver in full.

  • Three-phase buys nothing here

No Volvo plug-in hybrid can use 22kW. The three-phase lead is the wrong product for this car.

  • A short charge either way

The battery is a fraction of an electric car's, so even the 16amp lead finishes a full charge in a few hours.

  • Certified and weather rated

CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated against British weather, and carries a two-year warranty.

Installation

  1. 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
  2. 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
  3. 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
  4. 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

FAQs

How do I know which onboard charger my XC60 has?
It follows the battery. Cars up to 2021 use the smaller pack and a 3.7kW charger, which a 16amp lead covers. From 2022 the 18.8kWh battery came with about 6.4kW, which needs a 32amp lead to use fully.
Which cable should I buy?
A 16amp lead if the car is 2021 or earlier. A 32amp lead for 2022 onwards, so you get the full 6.4kW the newer charger allows.
Is the three-phase 22kW cable worth it?
No. No Volvo plug-in hybrid has an onboard charger anywhere near 22kW, so the extra capacity would sit unused. Buy the single-phase lead.
What is the Type 2 to 3 Pin cable for?
It is a Mode 2 lead for a household socket, running at 2.3kW on the adjustable 6amp to 12amp setting. Slow, and not intended as your main charger, but worth having in the boot.
How quickly will it arrive, and what if it is wrong?
Orders placed before 4pm are dispatched the same day, UK delivery is free next working day on orders over £150, and you have 30 days to return it.

What customers say about us

  • First class service

First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
