Choosing the right cable for your Subaru
Subaru sells one electric car in Britain, and it was co-developed with Toyota. The Solterra and the Toyota bZ4X are the same vehicle under two badges, which means the charging behaviour, the quirks and the right cable are identical.
Connector spec by model
- Solterra (2022+): Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC on most trims, 6.6kW on some early cars. 71.4kWh battery. 150kW DC.
- Crosstrek, Forester e-Boxer: mild hybrids with no plug. These need no cable.
Check which onboard charger your car has
Early Solterras were built with a 6.6kW onboard charger and later cars with 11kW. On a British single-phase home supply the practical gap is smaller than it sounds, because the supply caps at 7.4kW anyway, but it does explain a difference in charging time against another owner's car. The cable is the same either way.
A 71.4kWh battery is an overnight charge
At 7.4kW that is around ten hours from empty. The Solterra is a car to plug in when you get home rather than one to top up quickly, and a 32amp single-phase lead is the right rating. Three-phase would let an 11kW car reach its ceiling, but very few British homes have it.
No vehicle-to-load
Neither the Solterra nor the bZ4X supports V2L, so a discharge cable is not a purchase to consider. If running mains appliances from a car matters, our V2L adapter range lists the makes that do.
Length recommendations
The Solterra's charge port is on the front wing. On a driveway that usually means parking nose-in, so measure accordingly. 10m is the sensible default. Compare across our Type 2 charging cables.
