Porsche's UK EV range — Taycan and Macan EV — sits at the premium end of the market. Both use Type 2 AC + CCS DC, and both support optional 22kW AC charger upgrades. The Taycan was one of the first 800V architecture EVs (2020); the Macan EV (2024) inherits the same platform. Top-end DC charging speeds.
Connector spec by model
- Taycan (2020+) — Type 2 + CCS. 22kW AC on optional charger upgrade (standard is 11kW). 270kW DC peak. 800V.
- Macan EV (2024+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC standard, 22kW optional. 270kW DC peak. 800V.
- Cayenne / Panamera E-Hybrid (PHEV) — Type 2 AC, 11kW. No DC.
The 22kW AC option
The Taycan and Macan EV ship standard with an 11kW AC onboard charger. The optional 22kW upgrade was a £600 option on the Taycan; standard on some 2024+ Macan trims. Check your build sheet to confirm — "22 kW AC" on the spec means you have it.
If you have the 22kW option AND three-phase supply at home, a 22kW cable + 22kW wallbox charges your Taycan in about 5 hours from 10-100%, vs ~12 hours on single-phase 7kW. For high-mileage Taycan owners (50k miles/year), this difference is meaningful. For typical commuters, 11kW or even 7kW is plenty.
800V architecture — DC charging
Taycan and Macan EV are 800V — peak ~270kW DC on a 350kW ultra-rapid (Ionity, Tesla Supercharger V4, BP Pulse 300kW). 10-80% in ~22 minutes on a Taycan. The 800V architecture is what enables this — 400V cars peak at 150-175kW even on the same charger.
Length recommendations
Taycan charge ports are on both rear quarters — left-rear for the Type 2 socket (AC), right-rear for the CCS socket (DC). Macan EV is rear-right Type 2/CCS combined. For typical UK driveways: 7.5m or 10m Type 2 cable.
Three-phase install
If you have a 22kW Taycan and want full home AC speed, you need three-phase domestic supply. UK three-phase is rare; the DNO upgrade costs £3,000-8,000 and takes 6-16 weeks. Worth it if you also run heat pumps or induction hobs. Not worth it solely for the AC charging speed difference vs 11kW.

Porsche Connect handles basic charge scheduling. For dynamic Octopus Intelligent integration, pair with Ohme. For solar-PV homes pair with MyEnergi Zappi. For premium aesthetic that matches the car, Andersen A2 in oak or aluminium is worth the £1,395+ premium.
