Overview
Underneath, the C40 is an XC40 with a lower roof, and it spends most of its life on a home wallbox. That makes the cable decision simpler than the spec sheet suggests.
The onboard AC charger is rated at 11kW. A UK single-phase house cannot feed it that much, so the practical ceiling is 7.4kW through a 32A Type 2 lead. That fills the battery comfortably inside an overnight off-peak window.
The sloping roofline costs some boot height, which is worth remembering when you pick a length. A coiled 10m lead takes up noticeably more of the load bay than a 5m one.
Which cable to choose
- Type 2 to Type 2. 5m keeps the boot clear if the wallbox is beside the car. 10m is the safer choice for public bays and awkward charger positions.
- Type 2 to 3-pin. A Mode 2 lead for a household socket. Slow, and not intended as your main charger, but worth having in the boot.

7.4kW is the real home figure
The 11kW rating needs three phases to reach. On a single-phase UK wallbox a 32A lead gives you the full 7.4kW available.

Length matters more in a coupe-SUV
The tapering roof eats boot height. A 5m lead stores more easily if your wallbox reaches the car.
