Toyota models sold new in the UK use a Type 2 inlet, so a Type 2 to Type 2 cable is what you want for a home wallbox or a public post. Very early plug-in hybrids and grey imports can differ, so it is worth glancing at the socket before you order.

Choosing the right cable for your Toyota

Toyota came to full electric late and sells far more plug-in hybrids than EVs. Cable advice for the range therefore splits in two. The bZ4X is a normal electric car with a normal appetite. The RAV4, Prius and C-HR plug-in hybrids have small batteries and modest onboard chargers, and buying them a fast cable achieves nothing.

  • bZ4X (2022+): Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC on most trims, 6.6kW on some early cars. 150kW DC.
  • Urban Cruiser EV (2025+): Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC.
  • RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid: Type 2. 6.6kW AC. No DC rapid charging.
  • Prius Plug-in Hybrid (2023+): Type 2. 3.3kW AC. No DC rapid charging.
  • C-HR Plug-in Hybrid (2024+): Type 2. 6.6kW AC.
  • Proace / Proace City Electric: Type 2 + CCS. 7.4kW or 11kW AC depending on build.

The plug-in hybrids do not need a fast cable

A Prius Plug-in accepts 3.3kW. Hand it a 32amp lead and it will still draw 3.3kW, because the onboard charger is the limit rather than the cable. The 16amp cable covers every Toyota plug-in hybrid comfortably, and on the Prius even that is more than the car can use. Where the money is better spent is length.

The bZ4X is the one where rating matters

With a 71.4kWh battery the bZ4X is a genuine overnight charge. On a single-phase home wallbox it draws 7.4kW, which is roughly ten hours from empty. Three-phase at 11kW brings that closer to seven, but British houses are almost never wired for it, so the 32amp single-phase lead is the sensible everyday choice.

No vehicle-to-load across the range

Length recommendations

Toyota charge ports sit on the front wing on the bZ4X and the rear wing on most of the hybrids, so measure with the car parked as it normally sits. 5m suits a wallbox beside the car, 10m covers most driveways and public bays. Compare across our Type 2 charging cables.

Questions

Will this cable work with my Toyota?
Every current UK Toyota plug-in uses Type 2. Check your charge port: a hexagonal 7-pin socket is Type 2, a round 5-pin one is Type 1 and found only on much older imports.
What rating do I need for a RAV4 or Prius plug-in hybrid?
The 16amp cable is enough. The RAV4 accepts 6.6kW and the Prius 3.3kW, so a higher-rated lead cannot make either charge faster.
What about the bZ4X?
The 32amp single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable. On a home wallbox it draws 7.4kW, which fills the 71.4kWh battery in roughly ten hours.
Do any Toyotas support vehicle-to-load?
