Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information EV Cable Hub Ltd collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Who we are

EV Cable Hub Ltd ("EV Cable Hub", "we", "us") is the data controller for personal information collected through evcablehub.co.uk.

EV Cable Hub Ltd is registered in England and Wales, United Kingdom.

2. What information we collect

Information you give us: name, billing and delivery address, email, phone number, payment information (handled by Shopify Payments / Stripe and not stored by us), product preferences and order history.

Information we collect automatically: IP address, device and browser type, referring URL, pages visited, search terms, cart events, and similar usage data — collected through cookies and analytics (see our Cookie Policy).

Information from third parties: we receive limited information from payment processors (transaction status, fraud signals), couriers (delivery status), and review platforms (where you leave a review).

3. Why we use it (lawful bases)

Under UK GDPR Article 6, we process personal information on these lawful bases:

  • Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — to take orders, ship goods, handle returns and provide warranty support.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — to keep tax, accounting and consumer-protection records.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — to operate the website, prevent fraud, improve our service, and contact existing customers about similar products (subject to opt-out).
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for non-essential cookies, marketing emails to non-customers, and any direct marketing where consent is required by PECR.

4. How long we keep information

  • Order and customer-account records: 7 years from the date of last order, to meet HMRC requirements.
  • Marketing-list data: until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression-list retention to prevent re-mailing.
  • Analytics data: typically 14-26 months in aggregated form.
  • Customer-service correspondence: 3 years from the last contact.
  • Warranty claim records: for the lifetime of the warranty plus 12 months.

5. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the following categories of recipients, under written data-processing agreements where applicable:

  • Shopify Inc. — ecommerce platform (data processor; processes data in Canada and the EU under SCCs).
  • Payment processors — Shopify Payments, Stripe and PayPal, for transaction processing and fraud prevention.
  • Couriers — DPD, Royal Mail and others, for delivery.
  • Email service providers — for transactional and marketing email.
  • Analytics providers — Google Analytics, Ahrefs, and similar.
  • OZEV-approved installer partners — for wallbox installation orders, where we share name, address, phone and product details necessary to complete the install.
  • HMRC and law enforcement — where required by law.

We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, ever.

6. International transfers

Some of our processors operate outside the UK and EEA. Where they do, we rely on UK-approved transfer mechanisms — typically the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA), Standard Contractual Clauses, or adequacy decisions made by the Information Commissioner's Office.

7. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you (subject access request).
  • Rectify inaccurate information.
  • Erase information we no longer need ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restrict processing in certain circumstances.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing.
  • Data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing relies on consent.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

8. Marketing

If you've bought from us before, we may send you occasional marketing email about similar products under the "soft opt-in" exception in PECR Regulation 22(3). You can unsubscribe in any email, or by emailing us. If you've never bought from us, we'll only send marketing if you've explicitly opted in.

10. Children

Our service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, please contact us at privacy@evcablehub.co.uk and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date below shows when the current version took effect. Material changes will be notified by email to active customers.

12. Complaints to the ICO

If you're not satisfied with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk · 0303 123 1113.
