Choosing the right cable for your McLaren
The Artura is McLaren's first series-production plug-in hybrid, and its battery was sized by weight rather than by range. Understanding that saves you money on a cable, because the specification that matters is very modest.
Connector spec by model
- Artura / Artura Spider: Type 2. Around 7.4kWh battery. Low onboard AC charger. No DC rapid charging.
Weight, not range
McLaren builds around mass. A larger battery would have added weight the car was designed to avoid, so the pack is small deliberately. The electric range is short and the charging demand modest, which means the 16amp lead covers the car completely.
Charging in a garage, not on a driveway
Almost every Artura is kept indoors. Garage sockets tend to be on the wall behind or beside where the car sits rather than in front of it, and the route the cable takes is rarely the shortest line. Measure round the car, not across it.
Cars that sit for weeks
A car used at weekends spends most of its life parked. Leaving a lead permanently connected at the wall end is more practical than coiling it after every use, and it makes the car more likely to be plugged in at all, which is what keeps the battery healthy.
Length recommendations
10m is a safer default than the measurement suggests, for the routing reason above. Compare across our Type 2 charging cables.
