Ford's UK EV range — Mustang Mach-E, Capri, Explorer EV, Puma Gen-E, plus the imported F-150 Lightning — uses Type 2 AC + CCS DC. The F-150 Lightning's Pro Power Onboard is the most powerful V2L in the UK at 9.6kW, an order of magnitude more than the Hyundai/Kia 3.6kW spec.
Connector spec by model
- Mustang Mach-E (2021+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 150kW DC peak.
- Capri (2024+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 135kW DC.
- Explorer EV (2024+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 185kW DC.
- Puma Gen-E (2025+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 100kW DC.
- F-150 Lightning (UK import, 2023+) — Type 2 + CCS (UK-converted). 11kW AC. V2L 9.6kW (Pro Power Onboard). 150kW DC.
- E-Transit / E-Tourneo (2022+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 115kW DC.
- Focus Electric (2013-2017) — Type 1, 6.6kW AC. Legacy.
F-150 Lightning V2L — Pro Power Onboard
The UK-imported F-150 Lightning is genuinely class-leading on V2L at 9.6kW continuous. That's enough to run a power tool, a kettle and a fridge simultaneously. The Lightning has multiple onboard outlets (UK 3-pin via adapter from the Type 2 port; some US-spec trucks also have integrated bed sockets). With the larger 131kWh battery, V2L runtime stretches to multiple days for camping or power-outage scenarios.
Compatible with our V2L adapter range, but specifically the higher-output models that handle 9.6kW continuous draw — don't buy a Hyundai/Kia-spec 3.6kW V2L for the Lightning.
AC charging speed at home
Every Ford EV caps at 11kW AC.
- 11kW three-phase: ~45 miles/hour. 75kWh Mach-E battery in ~6 hours.
- 7.4kW single-phase: ~25-30 miles/hour. Same in 9-10 hours.
- F-150 Lightning extended-range (131kWh) at 7.4kW: ~17 hours overnight (yes, really).
Length recommendations
Ford charge ports are at the front-left on the Mustang Mach-E, rear-left on Capri/Explorer/Puma Gen-E, and front-left on the F-150 Lightning. The Lightning is also nearly 5.9m long — the cable run from a typical UK garage-mounted wallbox to the front-left port is longer than any UK car. 10-15m Type 2 cable for Lightning owners; 5-10m for the European-built Fords.
Focus Electric — Type 1 legacy
The 2013-2017 Ford Focus Electric (UK-import only) is Type 1. If you still have one running, you need Type 1 cables.
Smart-tariff integration
FordPass app handles basic scheduling. For Octopus Intelligent integration, pair with Ohme; for solar-PV pair with MyEnergi Zappi.
