Choosing the right cable for your Maserati
Maserati's range splits between full electric Folgore models and plug-in hybrids, and the gap between them is wide. A GranTurismo Folgore has an onboard charger four times faster than the hybrids, so which car you own genuinely changes the right answer.
Connector spec by model
- GranTurismo Folgore: Type 2 + CCS. Up to 22kW AC. Around 92.5kWh battery on an 800-volt system.
- Grecale Folgore: Type 2 + CCS. Up to 22kW AC. Around 105kWh.
- Grecale / Levante plug-in hybrid models: Type 2. Around 7.4kW AC. Small battery.
The Folgore models can use a three-phase lead
A 22kW onboard charger is rare, and Maserati fitted one to the Folgore cars. On a three-phase supply that is a genuine gain on a battery of this size. On an ordinary single-phase British home it makes no difference at all, because the supply caps the car at 7.4kW regardless.
The hybrids are ordinary
Maserati's plug-in hybrids charge at around 7.4kW into a small battery, so they fill in a couple of hours on a 32amp lead. Nothing faster helps.
800 volts is about rapid charging
The high-voltage architecture on the Folgore cars delivers very fast DC charging on a motorway rapid, which uses the charger's own tethered cable. It has no bearing on what you buy for home use.
