BYD EV Charging Cables

BYD EV charging cables compatible with current and recent BYD electric vehicles. All current UK BYD EVs use the universal Type 2 (Mode 3) connector — same cable as nearly every modern EV sold in the UK. Older BYD models may use Type 1; check your charge port shape before ordering. We stock 5m to 30m lengths in 7kW and 22kW ratings, with optional Mode 2 (3-pin granny) cables for emergency charging.

1 products

BYD has emerged as one of the largest global EV makers and entered the UK market with the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal and Sealion. All use Type 2 AC + CCS DC. V2L is standard across the line at 3.6kW. UK volume is growing fast in 2025-2026.

Connector spec by model

  • Atto 3 (2023+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. V2L 3.6kW. 89kW DC peak.
  • Atto 2 (2025+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. V2L. 88kW DC.
  • Dolphin (2023+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. V2L. 88kW DC.
  • Seal (2024+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. V2L. 150kW DC.
  • Sealion 7 (2025+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. V2L. 150kW DC.

V2L across the BYD line

BYD includes V2L (3.6kW from the Type 2 port) as standard on every UK EV in their range — unusual for a value-positioned brand. Compatible with our V2L adapter range. Useful for camping, power tools, holiday-let backup, kettle and fridge during outages.

The Sealion 7 and Seal also support DC V2H (vehicle-to-home) on selected markets, though UK availability of DC V2H wallboxes is still limited as of 2026.

AC charging speed at home

Every BYD EV caps at 11kW AC.

  • 11kW three-phase: ~45 miles/hour. 60kWh Atto 3 battery in ~5.5 hours.
  • 7.4kW single-phase: ~25-30 miles/hour. Same battery in 8-9 hours.

Battery technology — Blade

BYD's Blade battery is LFP (lithium iron phosphate) — different chemistry from typical NMC lithium-ion. Practical implications:

  • You CAN charge to 100% routinely without long-term degradation (NMC packs prefer 80% daily limit; LFP doesn't).
  • DC peak speed is slightly lower (typically 88-150kW) but the curve is flatter — sustained higher power above 30% state-of-charge.
  • Cold-weather performance is somewhat worse — LFP loses more range at -5°C than NMC.

Length recommendations

BYD charge ports are typically at the rear-right (Atto 3, Seal, Sealion) or front-right (Dolphin). UK driveways: 7.5-10m Type 2 cable.

Smart-tariff integration

BYD app integration is improving but not yet at the level of Tesla/Hyundai apps. For Octopus Intelligent integration, pair with Ohme; for solar-PV pair with MyEnergi Zappi.

What we stock for BYD

  • Type 2 cables in 5-30m, 7.4kW and 11kW ratings.
  • V2L adapters specifically tested with Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, Sealion.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Every current UK BYD EV uses Type 2 (Mode 3). Older BYD hybrids or pre-2018 EVs may use Type 1 — check your charge port: hexagonal 7-pin = Type 2, square 5-pin = Type 1.
10m suits most UK home setups. 5m if your wallbox is right next to where you park. 15-25m for awkward driveway layouts.
Match to your wallbox. UK home wallboxes are mostly 7kW (32A single-phase). 22kW only relevant if you have a three-phase supply.
Yes — see our granny chargers range. Mode 2 portable cables work with all current BYD EVs.
In-stock items ship same-day if ordered before 16:00 on a working day. Standard delivery is next-working-day across mainland UK. Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and remote Highlands take 2-3 working days. Free delivery on orders over £50.
