This is the master cable hub — every EV charging cable we stock, organised by connector, length, power and car compatibility. If you're not sure where to start, this page links you out to the right shelf in 30 seconds. The 80% answer: a 32A Type 2 cable, 7.5m or 10m long, single-phase. That covers nearly every UK EV sold new since 2018, plugged into a typical UK home wallbox or AC public charger.
Connector type — find yours first
The single most important decision is the plug at the end. Get this wrong and the cable won't fit your car at all.
- Type 2 — every UK EV sold new since 2018. Hexagonal 7-pin plug. The default answer.
- Type 1 — older Nissan Leaf (24/30 kWh), Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Mk1, first-gen BMW i3, Ford Focus Electric, original Vauxhall Ampera. Square 5-pin plug.
- Mode 2 / granny — 3-pin UK plug to Type 2 (or Type 1). For occasional charging from a household socket.
- V2L adapters — Type 2 to UK 3-pin socket. Powers tools and appliances FROM the EV battery. Hyundai, Kia, MG, BYD only.
Length — match it to the driveway
Most UK driveways need 7.5m or 10m. Pick from 5m, 8m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 25m or 30m depending on driveway geometry. Add 1-2m of slack so you're not straining the cable when parked either side. Don't oversize — longer cables are heavier, less tidy and slightly more expensive.
Power rating — match it to your wallbox
The cable's rating sets the upper limit on charging speed. Match (or slightly exceed) the wallbox's spec:
- 3.6kW (16A single-phase) — older PHEVs, low-spec wallboxes.
- 7.4kW (32A single-phase) — UK home wallbox standard. The default answer.
- 11kW (16A three-phase) — three-phase homes with mid-spec EVs.
- 22kW (32A three-phase) — three-phase homes with 22kW-capable EVs (Renault Zoe, Audi e-tron, some Mercedes EQ).
Build quality — what to look for
A cable lives outdoors. We sell only cables built to survive 5+ UK winters:
- IEC 62196-2 compliance on the connector — the international standard.
- IP55 minimum on couplings, IP66 if you'll leave it plugged in during storms.
- Halogen-free woven jacket — lasts 5-10× longer than rubber in UK weather.
- 1m drop-impact tested couplings — they get dropped on tarmac.
- 3-year minimum warranty — premium cables go to 5 years.
Car-specific shelves
If you'd rather start with your car make, jump to the right shelf — every page has the model-by-model compatibility notes:
- Tesla · BMW · VW · Audi · Mercedes
- Hyundai · Kia · Nissan · MG · BYD
- Polestar · Volvo · Porsche · Mini
What this cable won't do
A Type 2 cable is for AC charging only. Public DC rapid stations (Tesla Supercharger, Ionity, BP Pulse 150kW) use a different connector — CCS Combo 2 — which is tethered to the rapid post itself. You don't carry a CCS cable. If you're thinking "I'll get a fast cable for road trips," what you actually need is a route plan that uses public rapid charging.
