Overview
The Model Y is Tesla's fully electric crossover SUV: the same drivetrain and software as the rest of the range, wrapped in a body that actually swallows a family's luggage. Depending on the variant, expect a range of up to 330 miles (WLTP), with Long Range and Performance models on UK roads.
It charges on AC through a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable, and its onboard charger accepts a maximum of 11 kW. That is the number that matters when you are choosing a lead: for the fastest home or public AC charging, we point Model Y owners at the three-phase 32A cable, which brings the car from empty to full in around 8 hours. Away from AC, Tesla's Supercharger network handles DC at up to 250 kW, adding as much as 160 miles of range in around 15 minutes.
What we recommend for the Model Y
- Type 2 to Type 2: the everyday lead, compatible with home wall boxes and public charging stations across the UK. Available in 5m and 10m lengths.
- Type 2 to 3-pin: connects to a standard UK household socket, which makes it a practical backup when there is no dedicated wall box on the drive. Also available in 5m and 10m.
AC charging times
Estimated times below are empty to full for the Long Range car with its 75 kWh battery.
| Cable type | Capacity | Charging time | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type 2, 1-phase 16A | 3.7 kW | 23 hours 45 mins | |
| Type 2, 1-phase 32A | 7.4 kW | 11 hours 45 mins | |
| Type 2, 3-phase 32A | 22 kW | 8 hours | Best fit |
| Type 2 to 3-pin | 2.3 kW | 33 hours (approx.) | Ideal for home charging |
All our cables are CE marked and TÜV certified, IP66 rated for outdoor use, and covered by a two-year manufacturer warranty. Order before 4pm for same-day dispatch and UK delivery is free on orders over £150. If you are unsure which length suits your parking, ask us; we would rather you bought the right cable first time. Run-over proof
Built to take the weight of a car, so you can drive over the cable without damaging it (protection against pressure).
-
All-weather rated
Rated IP55, with the Type 2 to 3-Pin version rated IP67, and built to operate from -30°C to +60°C, so it charges reliably through UK rain, frost and summer heat.
-
Universal Type 2 fit
Works with all Type 2 electric vehicles and every UK/EU home wallbox and public AC charge point. No brand lock-in.
-
CE / TÜV certified
Independently certified to CE and TÜV, and built to the IEC 62196-2 Type 2 connector standard.
-
3-pin option for home sockets
Choose the 3-pin version to top up from a standard UK domestic socket when there is no wallbox nearby. It is a separate cable option, not an attachment.
-
Three-phase option
Pick the 32A three-phase version to charge at up to 22kW where a three-phase supply is available. The single-phase versions charge at up to 7.2kW on a standard home wallbox.
Installation
- 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
- 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
- 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
- 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

First class service
First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
