A coiled cable wins on portability in storage. Because it is short, it takes up little space in a bag and is lighter to carry. But that advantage disappears when you compare it against a straight cable of equivalent reach. A straight 5 m cable weighs around 1.5 kg, which is comfortable to handle and easy to store on a wall hook. You are not saving meaningful weight by choosing coiled.

Coil spring pull-back on your car’s charge inlet

At maximum extension, the coil spring wants to retract. That return tension exerts a pull-back force on both the Type 2 connector in the car and the wallbox socket. In most everyday use this is minor, but if the cable is regularly operated at the very limit of its reach, that persistent tension can stress the charge inlet over time. Every coil loop is a repeated tight bend. Each time the cable extends and retracts, the TPU jacket flexes at those bend points.
