Overview
Not sure how much cable you actually need? For most drivers 5m is the sweet spot, and it is one of the lengths we sell most of.
A 5m lead is light enough to coil one-handed, quick to stow, and short enough that it is not snaking across half the driveway while the car charges. If you can park within five metres of your charge point, and most people with a home wallbox can, there is little reason to carry anything longer.
Choose the connector combination that matches your car and your charging setup:
- Type 1: five internal pins, the standard on Japanese and North American models.
- Type 2: seven internal pins, the standard across Europe and most of the rest of the world.
- 3-pin: plugs into an ordinary UK domestic socket so you can charge from the mains at home.
Every 5m cable we stock is built to the same specification: IEC 62196-2 (Type 2 / MENNEKES) 7-pin where applicable, 16A or 32A, single and three-phase options rated at 3.6kW, 7.2kW and 22kW, 2.5-6mm² copper conductors sized by current rating, IP55 weatherproofing, run-over proof construction, and an operating range of -30°C to +60°C. All are CE marked and TÜV certified and carry a 24 month manufacturer warranty.
Who is a 5m cable right for?
Anyone with an electric or plug-in hybrid car who can position the vehicle within five metres of the socket. The easiest way to find out is a tape measure and two minutes. The appeal is that one cable usually covers home, work and public posts, which beats paying three times over for three separate leads.
Looking after it
Keep the cable somewhere dry and secure when it is not in use. That makes it a far less attractive prospect for an opportunist, and it protects the connectors at the same time. The IP55 rating means the cable copes with British weather while it is plugged in and working, but leaving it outdoors permanently invites moisture into the pins, and corroded pins shorten the life of any lead.

3-pin option for home sockets
Choose the 3-pin version to top up from a standard UK domestic socket when there is no wallbox nearby. It is a separate cable option, not an attachment.

Three-phase option
Pick the 32A three-phase version to charge at up to 22kW where a three-phase supply is available. The single-phase versions charge at up to 7.2kW on a standard home wallbox.
Installation
- 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
- 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
- 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
- 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.
