Between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026 the EV Cable Hub UK EV Lifecycle Panel tracked 88,412 used electric car listings and 34,860 new ones from the day they appeared to the day they sold. The average used EV took 42.8 days to sell in 2026. The fastest took 21.4 days and the slowest took 118.6. This is the complete 2026 dataset, with all 74 models ranked. It is one of four studies drawn from the UK EV Lifecycle Panel.
The 2026 headline findings#
The average used electric car in Britain took 42.8 days to sell in 2026. The fastest-selling model, the Renault 5 E-Tech, took 21.4 days and the slowest, the Audi e-tron 55, took 118.6. That is a spread of 97.2 days, or a factor of 5.5.
Days to sell is a market-clearing time, not an opinion. The EV Cable Hub UK EV Lifecycle Panel 2026 measures it as the number of calendar days between a listing going live and that listing being removed following a confirmed sale. Nobody is asked what they think of a car. The figure is whatever the market took to absorb it at the price it was offered at, which is why it is the cleanest available proxy for demand and why it can be compared across models, price bands, regions and months without adjustment.
A slow-selling car is not a bad car. That distinction matters, and it is worth stating before any of the rankings that follow. The models at the bottom of this table are, for the most part, expensive first-generation premium SUVs that sold in small numbers when new and now sit in the price bands where every used car, electric or otherwise, clears slowly. Time on forecourt measures the depth of the buying pool at a given price, not the quality of the engineering.
Four structural drivers explain most of the variation, and they run in a clear order of size. Price band is the largest: the gap between the cheapest and dearest bands is 66.2 days. Age is second, at 40.0 days between the youngest and oldest bands. Charging specification is third, worth 21.4 days between the slowest and fastest DC charging groups. Battery health disclosure is fourth, at 14.0 days. Everything else (colour, trim, region, month) moves the number by less, though all of them move it.
The sections that follow take each of those apart in turn, starting with the full 74-model ranking. This study is one of four produced from the same dataset: the EV Depreciation Study 2026 covers what these cars are worth, the Longest Lasting EVs Study 2026 covers how long they last, and the Used EV Price Index 2026 tracks used prices month by month. One convention affects every figure that follows and it is worth stating at the front. A relisted vehicle is matched on vehicle identity and treated as one continuous listing rather than as two shorter ones. That single decision raises the headline mean, because a car that is withdrawn and put back up a fortnight later is counted for the whole period rather than starting again at zero. It is the more honest measure of how long a car actually took to sell, and it is the reason the figures on this page run longer than a simple per-advert count would produce.

The full ranking, all 74 models by days to sell#
The Renault 5 E-Tech is the fastest selling used electric car in Britain in 2026, clearing forecourts in a mean of 21.4 days. The Audi e-tron 55 is the slowest at 118.6 days, and the gap between them is 97.2 days.
Read the table from left to right and it answers three different questions. Mean days to sell is the arithmetic mean across every qualifying listing in the twelve months to 30 June 2026. Median days is published beside it because the distribution has a long right tail. A handful of listings that sit for six months pull the mean above the typical experience, and for every model in this ranking the median is the lower of the two. Share sold inside 30 days is the practical demand indicator a dealer would actually use, because it describes the probability of a quick clearance rather than an average.
The pattern at each end of the table is consistent. The top is occupied by recently launched small and compact electric cars at accessible used prices: six of the ten fastest carry a mean asking price below £20,000, and the four that do not sit only just above it: the Skoda Elroq at £20,540, the Tesla Model 3 at £20,950, the Kia EV3 at £22,570 and the Tesla Model Y at £22,850. The bottom is occupied by first-generation premium SUVs and saloons launched between 2018 and 2020. Of the ten slowest, three carry a mean asking price above £22,000 and four are below £10,000. The slowest-selling car in Britain, the Audi e-tron 55, has a mean asking price of £9,670.
That last point is the one most likely to be misread, so it is worth stating plainly. A low asking price does not make a car sell quickly. Four of the ten slowest sellers are cheap in absolute terms and still take three months or more to move, because the buying pool for a large, heavy, first-generation electric SUV with a modest real-world range is thin at any price. Price band is the strongest single predictor in the EV Cable Hub UK EV Lifecycle Panel 2026, but it is a tendency and not a rule, and the exceptions cluster at the bottom of the table rather than the top.
The final column shows the change against the previous edition of the Panel. A negative figure means the model sold faster in 2026 than it did in 2025. Sixty-two of the 74 models improved, two were unchanged and ten slowed, and the improvement is concentrated among the newer, cheaper models while the deterioration is concentrated among the older premium ones. The market is not moving as one.
Sortability is the point of the table rather than a convenience. A journalist writing about one manufacturer, a dealer assessing one segment and a private seller looking up one car all need different orderings of the same 74 rows, and every column here sorts. The mean and the median are published side by side so the distribution is visible rather than implied: where the two diverge most, the model has a long tail of listings that sat for months, and that tail is what a dealer is really pricing when deciding what to take in part exchange.

The ten fastest selling EVs of 2026#
Six of the ten fastest selling used EVs in 2026 have a mean asking price below £20,000. The Renault 5 E-Tech leads at 21.4 days, followed by the Kia EV3 at 22.8 and the Skoda Elroq at 23.6.
The Renault 5 E-Tech sold in 21.4 days with 52.4% of listings gone inside a month, the highest share of any model in the study, at a mean asking price of £14,070. The Kia EV3 followed at 22.8 days and £22,570, and the Skoda Elroq at 23.6 days and £20,540. The Citroen e-C3 is the cheapest of the leading group at £11,800 and took 24.8 days. The Tesla Model 3, at 25.4 days and £20,950, is one of two cars from the mid SUV and saloon segment in the top ten.
Below those five the spread narrows to a matter of hours. The Dacia Spring and the Vauxhall Frontera Electric both cleared in 26.4 days, at £8,030 and £13,490 respectively. The Spring is the cheapest car in the top ten, though six models further down the ranking are cheaper still. The Tesla Model Y took 26.8 days at £22,850, the Volvo EX30 27.6 days at £18,120, and the MG4 28.2 days at £13,120. Every one of the ten sold inside 30 days in more than 43% of cases, against a national figure of 38.4%.
Three specification factors are common to the group. Eight of the ten carry an 11kW onboard AC charger, against 68.2% of listings overall. Nine of the ten can take 100kW or more on DC, the exception being the Dacia Spring at 30kW, which sells on price rather than on charging capability. Five of the ten are vehicle-to-load capable, against 26.4% of listings across the market. Nothing in that list proves causation on its own, and the charging section later on separates the specification effect from the price effect properly.
The honest caveat belongs here rather than in a footnote. Most of the models at the top of this table launched recently, so their used supply is still thin. A model with few cars on the market and steady interest will clear quickly almost by definition, and the ranking rewards that. The EV Cable Hub UK EV Lifecycle Panel 2026 requires a minimum of 120 confirmed used sales for a model to qualify, which keeps the figures real, but it cannot manufacture the years of history that the older models in this table have behind them.

New EVs, and how long they sit in stock#
A new electric car spent an average of 34.2 days in UK dealer stock in 2026, 8.6 days less than a used one. The fastest, the Renault 5 E-Tech, moved in 17.2 days and the slowest, the Porsche Taycan, took 82.6.
The two markets are not the same mechanism wearing different labels. New stock is pushed: registration targets, manufacturer support and finance offers all act on it, and a car that is not moving can be made to move by adjusting the monthly payment rather than the headline price. Used stock clears on demand alone. That difference shows up in every measure the EV Cable Hub UK EV Lifecycle Panel 2026 records: 52.6% of new EVs found a buyer inside 30 days against 38.4% of used ones, and only 4.8% of new stock was still unsold at 90 days against 11.6% used.
The two rankings agree on which cars are wanted and disagree on how much it matters. The correlation between the new and used orders is 0.94, so a model that sells quickly used almost always sells quickly new. But the new market compresses the spread: 65.4 days separate the fastest and slowest new models, against 97.2 days used. Manufacturer support flattens the bottom of the new market in a way nothing flattens the bottom of the used one.
Every model in the ranking sits in stock for less time new than it takes to sell used, and the gap widens as you go down the table. It is 4.2 days for the Renault 5 E-Tech at the top and 29.8 days for the Porsche Taycan at the bottom. Mean advertised prices in the 2026 Panel explain most of that: £44,180 new against £18,420 used. The cars with the widest gaps are the expensive ones, where the used buying pool thins out fastest.
Nine of the 74 models are no longer sold new and therefore appear in the used ranking only, which is why the new-stock table carries 65 rows rather than 74. The registration-plate cycle is the other structural feature worth naming here: March and September pull volume through both markets, and the monthly section quantifies what that does to clearance times on the used side.
One further difference between the two markets rarely gets stated. A new car that does not sell is still worth close to its list price next month, while a used car that does not sell is worth measurably less, because it has aged and the market beneath it has moved. The cost of a slow new car is the finance on the stock. The cost of a slow used car is the finance plus the depreciation, which is why the used market disciplines pricing faster and why its spread is 31.8 days wider.

Days to sell by segment#
Superminis are the fastest selling electric cars in Britain, at a mean of 37.6 days in 2026. Large and premium EVs are the slowest at 62.8 days, a difference of 25.2 days.
The Panel groups the 74 models into five segments by body size and market position rather than by manufacturer marketing category, because marketing categories are inconsistent between brands and change between model years. Superminis lead at 37.6 days, compact SUVs follow at 39.2, the single estate model sits at 42.8, mid SUVs and saloons at 43.6, and large and premium cars at 62.8. The order has been stable across three editions of the Panel.
Segment and price are hard to separate, and it would be dishonest to present the segment ranking as though it were independent of the price ranking. The segments sit almost exactly in price order, and the price band analysis in the next section shows a 66.2-day range on price alone. What the segment table adds is the shape of the risk rather than the average: 41.6% of large and premium listings were still unsold at 90 days and 24.8% were withdrawn without selling, against 19.4% and 8.2% for superminis. The tail is what makes a segment expensive to hold, not the mean.
The estate figure is a model figure wearing a segment label. The MG5 is the only estate in the ranking, so the segment mean of 42.8 days is simply that car's own result and the within-segment spread is zero. It is published for completeness rather than as a finding, and it should not be quoted as evidence about electric estates in general.
In the 2026 Panel, within-segment spreads are wider than the gaps between segments, which is the more useful reading for anyone buying or selling a specific car. Large and premium runs from the Mercedes CLA Electric at 33.4 days to the Audi e-tron 55 at 118.6, a spread of 85.2 days. Compact SUV runs from the Kia EV3 at 22.8 to the Subaru Solterra at 68.4. Knowing the segment tells you less than knowing the model, and knowing the model tells you less than knowing the asking price.

Days to sell by price band#
Used EVs priced below £10,000 sold in a mean of 28.4 days in 2026. Those priced above £70,000 took 94.6 days, three and a third times longer, and the nine bands rise in an unbroken sequence between the two.
This is the strongest single relationship in the dataset. A straight-line fit through the nine band midpoints puts the gradient at approximately 4.5 days for every £5,000 of asking price, but the average conceals a change in slope. Between the under-£10,000 band and the £25,000 to £29,999 band each successive step adds between 2.8 and 3.8 days. Above £30,000 the steps get longer, and the jump from the £50,000 to £69,999 band to the £70,000-and-above band alone is 23.2 days. The relationship is close to linear up to £50,000 and steepens sharply after it.
The sub-£10,000 finding is the one that contradicts a widely held assumption, so it should be stated flatly: cheap old electric cars are not unsellable. They are the fastest-selling used EVs in Britain. EV Cable Hub's 2026 listing tracker recorded 28.4 days in that band, with 56.2% sold inside a month and only 4.2% still unsold at 90 days, the best result of any band on all three measures. These are overwhelmingly first-generation cars with modest ranges and measurable battery degradation, and they clear faster than anything else on the market.
Price cutting tracks the same gradient. In the cheapest band the 2026 Panel found 11.8% of listings took a price cut and the mean cut was £412. In the dearest, 31.6% took one and the mean was £3,264. A seller in the top band is nearly three times as likely to have to move on price and does so by nearly eight times as much, which is the clearest available statement of where the risk of holding stock actually sits.
Segment modifies the effect without overturning it. Within any given price band a supermini still clears faster than a large or premium car, but the difference inside a band is a fraction of the difference between bands: at £20,000 to £24,999 the segment range is 18.4 days, while moving from that band to the one above costs every segment several days regardless. What a car costs matters more than what shape it is. The EV Depreciation Study 2026 covers how those prices got there.
A note on how the bands should and should not be used. The gradient describes the market's behaviour across price bands, not the effect of changing the price of one particular car. Dropping a car from the £25,000 to £29,999 band into the band below does not automatically buy the 3.6-day difference between those two rows, because the car itself has not changed and the buyers looking in the lower band can see that. What the opening-price analysis later on measures is the effect of pricing against a car's own market value, which is the question a seller is actually asking.

Days to sell by region#
Used EVs sold fastest in South East England in 2026, at a mean of 39.8 days, and slowest in Northern Ireland at 52.4 days. The gap between the fastest and slowest UK region was 12.6 days.
EV Cable Hub's 2026 listing tracker covers twelve UK regions, and the regional order is tight at the top and stretches at the bottom. South East England at 39.8 days, the East of England at 40.6, South West England at 41.4, the East Midlands at 41.8 and the West Midlands at 42.2 are separated by less than two and a half days in total. North West England sits exactly on the national mean at 42.8. The gaps open below that: Yorkshire and the Humber 43.6, North East England 46.4, Wales 47.8, Scotland 48.6 and Northern Ireland 52.4.
Greater London is the region that will surprise people, and it repays unpicking. It has the densest charging network in the country and it ranks eighth of twelve at 46.2 days. The reason is in the same row: the mean London asking price is £22,480, the highest of any region and £6,520 above Northern Ireland's. London holds a disproportionate share of premium stock, and premium stock clears slowly everywhere. The regional gap by segment table separates the two effects, and within the supermini segment London runs at 40.2 days against a South East figure of 34.6. That is a gap of 5.6 days rather than the 6.4 days the headline implies.
Read down the segment columns and the regional ordering is identical in all four, which is a strong result. Every region sells superminis fastest and large and premium cars slowest, and the rank order of regions does not change between segments. What changes is the size of the penalty: the fastest-to-slowest regional gap is 12.2 days for superminis and 20.4 days for large and premium cars. Regional disadvantage compounds with price rather than acting independently of it.
Northern Ireland's figure carries the widest interval of the twelve, at 1.9% of tracked listings, the smallest regional sample in the Panel. It is a real reading and it is consistent with the 2025 edition, but it should be quoted with that caveat attached. The three drivers that best explain the regional spread are the local mix of stock, the share of households with off-street parking, and charge point density, in that order of size.
Regional figures are assigned by the seller's location rather than the buyer's, which matters more in this market than in most. Online-only retailers and delivery-based sellers concentrate their stock in a small number of sites and sell it nationally, so their listings inflate the regions those sites happen to sit in. Northern Ireland, at 1.9% of listings and with almost no such stock, is the region least affected by that distortion and also the one with the smallest sample. The two facts pull the interpretation in opposite directions, and both are published for that reason.

Month by month through 2026#
March 2026 was the fastest month for used EV sales, at a mean of 36.8 days, and December 2025 the slowest at 52.6 days. The seasonal spread across the twelve months to June 2026 was 15.8 days.
The shape of the year in the 2026 Panel is driven by the registration-plate cycle. March and September are the months when new plates arrive, part exchanges flow into the used market and buyers who have been waiting act. March 2026 produced both the fastest clearance of the year at 36.8 days and the highest volume at 9,240 tracked listings. September 2025 was the second-fastest month of the twelve at 41.8 days on 8,420 listings. Neither is a coincidence: the same event fills the forecourt and brings the buyers.
December is the mirror image. At 52.6 days it was 15.8 days slower than March, only 29.8% of listings cleared inside a month, the withdrawal rate reached 6.4% (the highest of the twelve months) and the mean price cut rose to £962 against £726 in March. Volume also collapsed, to 5,480 tracked listings, the lowest of the year. A seller listing in December faces the worst combination in the dataset: fewer buyers, more discounting and a higher chance of giving up.
January is slow rather than dead, at 48.2 days, and the recovery through February to June is orderly: 42.6, 36.8, 38.4, 39.6 and 40.2 days. The drift upwards from April onwards is mild and consistent with the 2025 edition of the Panel. Anyone modelling the used EV market on a single quarter of data will get the level roughly right and the direction badly wrong, twice a year.
The seasonal pattern holds across every segment but not with equal force. Superminis and compact SUVs swing by 15.4 days between their best and worst months, mid SUVs and saloons by 16.6, and large and premium cars by 20.6. The large and premium segment is also the only one whose best month is September 2025 rather than March 2026, at 56.2 days. Expensive cars follow the plate cycle a beat behind the rest of the market.
There is a practical reading of the seasonal table that dealers already act on and private sellers generally do not. The difference between listing in March and listing in December is 15.8 days on the mean and 15.0 percentage points on the share that clears inside a month, and it costs nothing but patience. For a car coming off a lease in November the choice is real: hold it for four months and accept the storage and the depreciation, or list it into the worst month of the year and accept the £962 mean price cut that goes with it. The Panel does not settle that trade-off, but it does price both sides of it.

Days to sell by age#
A used EV under a year old sold in 32.4 days in 2026. One over ten years old took 72.4 days. Across the nine age bands each additional year added an average of 3.8 days to the time it took to find a buyer.
The age gradient is smooth in the middle and steep at the ends. From under a year to two years the increment is 2.4 days. From two to three years it is 2.8, from three to four 3.6, and it holds around that level through the middle of the range. Beyond eight years the increments jump: the six-to-eight band to the eight-to-ten band adds 7.6 days, and the eight-to-ten band to the over-ten band adds 10.6.
Two discontinuities are visible and both have an obvious mechanism. The first is at three to four years, where the manufacturer warranty on the vehicle itself typically lapses and the increment widens from 2.8 days to 3.6. The second and larger one sits beyond eight years, where the battery warranty on most models has run out; the 2026 Panel puts the mean battery state of health in that band at 83.8%, and at 80.2% beyond ten years. Buyers are pricing the remaining cover, not just the odometer.
Age and price move together, which complicates the reading. Mean asking price falls from £24,680 in the youngest band to £5,640 in the oldest, and the price analysis says that alone should make old cars sell faster. They sell slower anyway. Age is therefore doing work that price cannot explain, and the most likely candidate is battery generation: an eight-year-old EV is not merely a worn version of a new one, it is an earlier technology with less range and slower charging.
The practical consequence for anyone holding stock is that the risk profile changes faster than the mean does. In the youngest band EV Cable Hub's 2026 listing tracker found 5.2% of listings still unsold at 90 days. Beyond ten years that figure is 32.8%, a sixfold increase, while the mean has only slightly more than doubled. The mean describes the typical car; the 90-day figure describes the one that ties up capital.
The age bands also carry the clearest warning in this study about reading a mean without its distribution. A ten-year-old electric car takes 72.4 days on average, which sounds survivable. But a third of those listings were still live at 90 days, so the average is being held down by a substantial group that sold quickly (typically the cheapest, best-documented cars) while a comparable group never really moved at all. For old stock the mean is close to useless as a planning figure and the 90-day share is the number to work from.

Days to sell by mileage#
A used EV with under 10,000 miles sold in 34.2 days in 2026. One with over 120,000 miles took 74.6 days. Mileage moved the number less than age did below 50,000 miles, and more than age did above it.
The odometer gradient looks similar to the age gradient at first glance and behaves differently underneath. The first four bands, covering everything below 40,000 miles, are separated by 2.6, 2.6 and 2.2 days: small steps for large amounts of driving. Beyond 50,000 miles the steps lengthen to 3.6, 5.6, 7.8 and finally 13.4 days between the last two bands. Buyers barely distinguish a 12,000-mile car from a 32,000-mile one, and distinguish sharply between 80,000 and 130,000.
The 2026 Panel's combined age-and-mileage table is where the crossover shows. Take a car under two years old: moving it from under 20,000 miles to the 50,000-to-89,999 band costs 10.3 days. Take a car over eight years old and the same move costs 6.6 days. Now hold mileage constant instead: at under 20,000 miles, moving from under two years old to over eight costs 26.1 days. At 90,000 miles and above, the same ageing costs 17.6 days. Below 50,000 miles age is doing roughly two and a half times the work of mileage; above it the two converge.
The reason is that used EV buyers are using age as a proxy for battery generation rather than for wear. A three-year-old car with 60,000 miles has newer cells, a faster charging curve and more usable range than an eight-year-old car with 30,000, and the market prices it accordingly. That is close to the opposite of how the same buyers would read a petrol car, where mileage is the dominant wear signal and a low-mileage older car commands a premium.
The worst combination in the table is a car over eight years old with 90,000 miles or more, at 76.2 days, still comfortably inside the range of times recorded for premium models a fraction of its age. The Longest Lasting EVs Study 2026 covers what actually happens to these cars at high mileage, including measured battery state of health against odometer reading, which is the evidence a seller in this position most needs.

Battery size, range and how fast a car sells#
Used EVs with a 50 to 59 kWh battery sold fastest in 2026, at a mean of 34.8 days. Cars with 90 kWh or more took 62.8 days. Bigger batteries did not sell faster; they sold slower, because they sit in the price bands that clear slowest.
The relationship between battery capacity and days to sell is a U-shape with its floor at 50 to 59 kWh. Below that floor, cars under 40 kWh take 41.8 days. Short range is a real constraint and buyers price it. Above it the curve climbs steadily: 37.2 days at 60 to 69 kWh, 41.6 at 70 to 79, 48.4 at 80 to 89 and 62.8 at 90 kWh and above. The middle of the market clears fastest, which is not what the specification-sheet reading of this market would predict.
Capacity is largely a price variable in disguise. In the 2026 Panel, mean asking price rises from £11,420 in the under-40 kWh band to £42,640 in the 90 kWh-and-above band, so comparing the two is mostly comparing a £11,000 car with a £43,000 one. The controlled table is the honest test: hold price constant and compare capacities within the same band. Uncontrolled, the spread from fastest to slowest capacity band is 28.0 days. Controlled, the effect of capacity runs from -1.0 days to +2.4 days, a spread of 3.4 days. Roughly nine-tenths of the apparent battery-size effect is a price effect.
Within the £15,000 to £19,999 band, capacities from under 40 kWh to 70 to 79 kWh cluster between 33.8 and 35.2 days. Within the £25,000 to £29,999 band, capacities from 40 kWh to 90 kWh and above cluster between 41.6 and 44.8. In both cases the surviving effect points the same way (a little more capacity helps slightly up to about 60 kWh and hurts slightly beyond it), but the magnitude is a few days rather than a month.
EV Cable Hub's 2026 listing tracker finds WLTP range tells the same story with a clearer optimum. The 250 to 299 mile band is fastest at 35.6 days, and both extremes are slower: 58.6 days under 150 miles and 51.2 days above 400. The market's judgement is that around 250 miles is enough, and that paying for substantially more range is a cost rather than a benefit at resale. The EV Depreciation Study 2026 shows the same optimum in the depreciation figures, which is a useful independent check on both.
The controlled comparison in this section is a stratified one rather than a regression, and its limits should be stated. Within a single £5,000 price band there is still variation in age, mileage and segment, so the residual 3.4-day effect is an upper bound on what battery capacity contributes rather than a precise estimate of it. What the comparison establishes securely is the direction and the order of magnitude: capacity is not a major independent driver of clearance speed, and any analysis treating it as one is reading a price effect and labelling it a battery effect.

Charging specification and how fast an EV sells#
EVs with an 11kW onboard AC charger sold in 40.6 days in 2026, 17.8 days faster than those limited to 3.6kW. Cars capable of 250kW or better DC charging sold in 33.2 days against 54.6 days for cars capped below 60kW.
Charging capability is now a priced attribute in the British used market, and it is measurable in both directions. On the AC side, which governs how fast a car refills at home, the 3.6kW group took 58.4 days, the 6.6kW group 47.2, the 7 to 7.4kW group 44.8 and the 9.9 to 11kW group 40.6. On the DC side, which governs public rapid charging, the sequence is unbroken across six bands: 54.6 days under 60kW, 45.8 at 60 to 99kW, 39.2 at 100 to 149kW, 36.4 at 150 to 199kW, 34.8 at 200 to 249kW and 33.2 at 250kW and above.
The 22kW group is the exception that keeps the finding honest. Those cars took 43.2 days, slower than the 9.9 to 11kW group despite a nominally superior onboard charger, because 22kW AC charging requires a three-phase supply that almost no British home has. Capability the buyer cannot use is not a selling point, and the market has worked that out. It is the clearest evidence in this section that buyers are pricing usable capability rather than reading specification sheets.
The two variables are not weighted equally. Across the Panel, DC peak rate correlates with days to sell at -0.58 and onboard AC rating at -0.42, so buyers attend more closely to rapid charging than to home charging. That is a mismatch with how these cars are actually used: the EV Cable Hub Charging Behaviour Panel 2026 finds the average owner takes 84.6% of their energy at home on AC. The attribute drivers pay most attention to at purchase is the one they use least, and the direction of the change is towards more of it: the DC bands above 100kW all improved against 2025 while those below 60kW deteriorated by 3.2 days.
Vehicle-to-load capability shows a 7.8-day advantage, at 36.8 days against 44.6, on 26.4% of listings. Some of that is a proxy for recency, since V2L is concentrated in newer models. What is left after that is the same pattern as the rest of this section: a feature the buyer can actually use, and a measurable premium in clearance time attached to it.
The commercial implication of this section sits with the seller rather than with the manufacturer, because the specification is fixed by the time a car reaches the used market. What is not fixed is whether the listing makes the capability visible. Cars advertised with both a Type 2 cable and a granny charger cleared in 34.2 days against 52.6 days for cars advertised with none, and 15.4% of listings said nothing about charging equipment at all. Those took 48.2 days, worse than the listings that explicitly included nothing but a cable. Who is selling, and how that changes the numbers#
Online-only retailers sold used EVs fastest in 2026, at a mean of 29.6 days, and private sellers slowest at 58.2 days. The gap between the fastest and slowest channel was 28.6 days.
EV Cable Hub's 2026 listing tracker ranks the six selling channels in a consistent order. Online-only retailers at 29.6 days, car supermarkets at 31.8, ex-lease and remarketing at 34.2, franchised dealers at 38.4, independent dealers at 44.6 and private sellers at 58.2. The same order holds on median days, on share sold inside 30 days and inversely on the share of listings taking a price cut, which runs from 18.2% for online-only retailers to 41.6% for private sellers. Four measures, one ranking.
The caveat is that these channels do not hold comparable stock, and the controlled comparison is what makes the finding survive challenge. Hold price band and vehicle age constant and the 28.6-day channel spread collapses to 11.2 days. In other words 60.8% of the apparent channel effect is stock mix (online-only retailers hold newer, higher-specification cars) and the remaining 39.2% is the channel itself: presentation, pricing discipline, delivery and the machinery for handling enquiries quickly.
Listing quality accounts for a good deal of that residual, and the 2026 Panel measures it directly. Listings with 30 or more photographs sold in 35.2 days against 54.8 days for those with fewer than ten, a gap of 19.6 days. Online-only retailers averaged 42 photographs and private sellers 11. Descriptions over 250 words sold in 37.8 days against 51.4 for those under 50 words. A video walkaround appeared on 14.2% of listings and those cleared in 32.6 days.
Two further behaviours move the number and both are free. Listings that mentioned the charging cable supplied sold in 37.4 days against 46.2 days for those that mentioned no charging equipment at all. That is 8.8 days for a sentence. Home delivery was offered on 41.6% of listings and those sold in 35.4 days. Finance quoted in the listing appeared on 62.8% and those sold in 39.2 days. Not one of these requires the seller to reduce the price, which is the point of publishing them.
The private-seller figure is the least robust number in this study and the caveat belongs beside it rather than in the methodology alone. Private sales are 6.4% of the tracked sample against a materially larger share of the real market, because private listings are more likely to appear on platforms outside the tracker and more likely to end in an unrecorded sale. The 58.2-day figure is a real reading of the private listings we can see, and it should be read as indicative of the channel rather than definitive about it.

Colour, trim and specification#
Blue was the fastest selling used EV colour in Britain in 2026 at a mean of 38.6 days. Beige was the slowest at 64.2 days, a difference of 25.6 days on an attribute that cannot be changed after purchase.
The EV Cable Hub UK EV Lifecycle Panel 2026 maps twelve colour groups, and the ranking is tight at the top and long-tailed at the bottom. Blue at 38.6 days, grey at 39.4, white at 40.2, black at 41.8, red at 42.4 and silver at 43.6 are separated by five days in total, and between them they account for 93.0% of listings. The tail is where the damage is: green at 46.2, yellow at 52.8, orange at 54.6, purple at 57.8, brown at 61.4 and beige at 64.2. The four commonest colours (grey, white, black and blue) cover 79.8% of the market between them.
Colour is not a proxy for price. The mean asking prices across the twelve colours run from £15,940 to £19,480, a narrow band that does not track the days-to-sell ranking: black is the most expensive colour on average and ranks fourth on speed, while beige is the cheapest and ranks twelfth. The colour effect appears to be a straightforward preference effect operating on a much smaller buying pool for the unusual finishes.
Trim contradicts the assumption that more specification always helps, and the 2026 Panel measures every attribute against its own segment mean. Mid trim sold fastest at 39.2 days, 3.6 days better than its segment mean. High trim followed at 41.8, entry trim at 44.6 and performance or flagship versions at 52.4, which is 9.6 days worse than the segment mean and the weakest result of any trim level. Buyers appear to want the specification that makes a car comfortable to live with and to resist paying for the specification that makes it fast.
Two individual options move the number more than trim level does. A heat pump was fitted to 38.4% of listings and those sold in 37.6 days against 45.8 without, worth 8.2 days. That is the largest single-option effect in the study, and it is consistent with buyers pricing winter efficiency. A tow bar, on 4.2% of listings, was worth 6.0 days against the segment mean. Ownership history matters more than either: full service history, present on 76.4% of listings, was worth 3.0 days against the segment mean, while no service history cost 19.6 days and five or more previous owners cost 26.0.
It is worth being explicit about what the colour finding does and does not license. The 25.6-day spread is real and it is measured on 88,412 listings, but the slowest colours are also the rarest: beige and purple together account for 0.8% of the market. A wide gap measured on a small share of listings is a fragile figure, and the sensible reading is the one about the common colours: the four that cover four-fifths of the market are separated by only 3.2 days, so a seller with a grey, white, black or blue car has effectively no colour problem to solve.

What happens to the price while a car sits unsold#
A used EV that sold without any price change went in 24.6 days in 2026. One that needed three or more price cuts took 84.2 days and lost £2,148 from its opening asking price. Across all listings the mean reduction was £842, or 4.6% of the opening price.
The relationship between cutting and selling runs the opposite way to intuition. Listings that never moved on price sold in 24.6 days and 62.8% of them cleared inside a month. One reduction is associated with 46.8 days, two with 62.4 and three or more with 84.2. Cutting the price does not slow a car down; a car that was going to be slow gets cut. But the sequence does show what a cut is actually worth once a listing has stalled, and the answer is less than sellers expect: the reductions get larger while the outcomes get worse.
The size of the cut escalates with the number of cuts on EV Cable Hub's 2026 transaction panel. One reduction averaged £742, or 4.1% of the opening price. Two averaged £1,386 at 7.6%. Three or more averaged £2,148 at 12.4%. A seller who has cut three times has given up an eighth of the opening price and is still, on average, 84.2 days into the process. That is the cost of a mispriced opening, expressed in money rather than in patience.
Opening price accuracy is the single most controllable factor in the study, and its effect is close to linear. Listings that opened within 2% of their eventual transaction price sold in 27.4 days with a mean total reduction of £184. Opening 2% to 5% above cost 8.8 further days. Opening 5% to 10% above took 48.6 days, 10% to 15% above took 58.6, and more than 15% above took 72.4 days and a mean reduction of £2,742.
The withdrawal figures are the part dealers should read twice. The 2026 Panel found only 2.1% of listings opening within 2% of market value were withdrawn without selling. That rises to 6.8% at 5% to 10% above, 12.4% at 10% to 15% above and 21.6% beyond 15%. More than one in five aggressively priced cars never found a buyer at all through that listing, which is a materially worse outcome than a slow sale. The Used EV Price Index 2026 tracks the market values these accuracy bands are measured against, month by month.
The withdrawal data also reframes what a price cut is for. A reduction is usually described as the cost of selling a car more quickly, but the sequence in these tables suggests it is more often the cost of correcting an opening price that was never going to clear. Listings that opened accurately barely cut at all (£184 on average) and sold in 27.4 days. Everything above that is remedial. The cheapest reduction available to any seller is the one made before the car is listed.

Electric against petrol, diesel and hybrid#
A used EV took 42.8 days to sell in 2026 against 38.4 days for a used petrol car, a gap of 4.4 days. In the 2024 edition of the Panel that gap was 21.6 days, so it has closed by 17.2 days in two years.
Ranked across the six fuel types, electric sits fifth. Full hybrids were fastest at 35.6 days, followed by mild hybrids at 37.8, petrol at 38.4, diesel at 41.2, battery electric at 42.8 and plug-in hybrids at 44.2. So the plain answer to whether electric cars are harder to sell is yes, marginally (4.4 days against petrol and 1.6 days against diesel), and it would cost this study its credibility to report it any other way.
The trend is the finding rather than the level. Electric was the only fuel type to improve materially against 2025, at -4.2 days; diesel deteriorated by 1.6 days and plug-in hybrids by 0.6. Over three editions of the Panel the used EV figure has gone 60.4, 47.0, 42.8 while used petrol has been almost static at 38.8, 38.8, 38.4. The convergence is entirely the electric side moving.
Three things are driving it and they are visible in the same table. Used EV mean prices have fallen from £24,860 in the 2024 edition to £18,420 now, closing most of the gap to the £13,940 petrol mean. Charging provision has widened. And battery health disclosure has trebled, which removes the single largest unknown a used EV buyer faces. At the current rate the gap closes entirely within about two years, but that is an extrapolation rather than a measurement and should be read as one.
The like-for-like table is the sharper test, because it compares each electric model against its closest petrol or hybrid equivalent rather than comparing two market averages. Of the 42 pairs, 25 electric models sold faster than their equivalent and 17 sold slower. The mean across all 42 pairs is 2.2 days slower for the electric car. The largest advantage is the Tesla Model Y at 16.0 days faster than the Volvo XC60, and the largest deficit is the Audi e-tron 55 at 60.2 days slower than the Audi Q7. A majority of electric models beat their petrol equivalent while the average electric car does not, because the deficits are concentrated in a handful of large premium models and they are very large.
One asymmetry in the like-for-like table deserves attention because it explains the whole result. The electric advantages are modest and numerous, clustering between two and sixteen days across 25 pairs. The electric deficits are few and extreme: four models account for deficits of 23.4, 24.0, 33.6, 40.8 and 60.2 days. A mean computed across those two distributions describes neither of them well, which is why the median pair and the count of pairs are published alongside it. The typical electric model is now marginally quicker than its petrol equivalent; the average is dragged the other way by a small group of large premium cars.

Demand intensity, searches per listing#
The Renault 5 E-Tech attracted 42.1 searches per live listing in 2026, the highest demand intensity of any EV in Britain. The Audi e-tron 55 attracted 7.6, the lowest. Demand intensity predicted days to sell more accurately than price did.
Searches per live listing divides the number of model-name searches on listing platforms by the number of live listings for that model. It is a ratio of interest to supply rather than a measure of either on its own, which is what makes it useful: a model can have very few searches and still clear quickly if it has even fewer cars for sale. Across the Panel the mean is 21.0 searches per live listing, rising to 26.4 for superminis and falling to 14.2 for large and premium models.
It is a leading indicator, and that is its practical value. Changes in demand intensity move roughly six weeks ahead of changes in days to sell, so a model whose ratio is climbing in February is a model that will clear faster in April. The highest single-week reading in the 2026 window was 68.4 for the Renault 5 E-Tech in the week commencing 2 March 2026, immediately before the plate change; the lowest was 5.2 for the Audi e-tron 55 in the week commencing 22 December 2025.
Ranked against every other variable in the 2026 Panel, demand intensity is the strongest predictor of days to sell at a correlation of -0.88. Asking price follows at 0.74, vehicle age at 0.69 and odometer reading at 0.61. DC peak charge rate comes in at -0.58 and onboard AC rating at -0.42. Battery capacity manages only 0.31 and WLTP range -0.12, which is the statistical version of the point made in the battery section: specification matters far less than the market believes it does.
The top 25 by demand intensity is almost the same list as the top 25 by days to sell, in almost the same order, which is what a correlation of -0.88 looks like in practice. Where the two disagree is worth watching, because a model with high intensity and a mediocre clearance time usually has a supply problem rather than a demand one. The Used EV Price Index 2026 uses the same measure as a leading indicator for used prices, six weeks ahead in the same way.
Demand intensity is also the measure most likely to be misused, so its denominator deserves stating twice. It is searches divided by live listings, which means a model can rise up this ranking either because interest grew or because supply shrank. The two have very different implications for a dealer. Checking the ranking against the listings-tracked column in the monthly table is the quickest way to tell which is happening, and in 2026 the movement at the top of this list was predominantly interest rather than scarcity.

What this means if you are selling an EV#
A used EV listed in March 2026, priced within 2% of its market value, with a stated battery state of health and both charging cables included, sold in a mean of 21.8 days. The same car listed in December, priced 10% high, with no battery health figure and no cables, took 79.4 days.
The spread between the best and worst controllable combination is 57.6 days, and none of it requires the seller to reduce the asking price. That is the central practical finding of this study. The twelve factors below are ranked by the days each is worth against the baseline, measured across the whole Panel rather than estimated, and they are all things a seller decides rather than things the car is.
Full service history leads at 22.6 days saved, though at 76.4% adoption most sellers already have it. The figure is really a warning about what its absence costs. The next four are where the opportunity is. Using 30 or more photographs is worth 19.6 days and only 28.4% of sellers do it. Including both a Type 2 cable and a granny charger is worth 18.4 days at 31.4% adoption. Attaching a battery health certificate is worth 17.2 days at 12.6% adoption. Listing in March rather than December is worth 15.8 days and costs nothing but timing.
Below those, opening within 2% of market value is worth 15.4 days at 24.6% adoption, publishing a battery state of health figure 14.0 days at 34.2%, a description over 250 words 13.6 days at 38.6%, a video walkaround 10.2 days at 14.2%, mentioning the charging equipment supplied 8.8 days at 52.4%, offering home delivery 7.4 days at 41.6%, and quoting finance 3.6 days at 62.8%. The effects are not fully additive, because several overlap, and that is why the combined best case is 21.8 days rather than the sum of the individual savings.
Adoption is the striking part of the 2026 Panel's table. Only 22.4% of listings used four or more of the twelve factors, and 4.6% used none at all. Listings using four or more sold in 30.2 days; those using one or none took 61.8. And 46.2% of sellers reduced their price before trying any of the twelve, which is the most expensive sequence available: the mean transaction price advantage of the best-case combination is £684, so the controllable factors are worth money as well as time.
A final honest note on how these numbers combine. The twelve factors are measured independently, each against the Panel baseline, and several of them overlap: a seller who takes 30 photographs is also likely to write a long description and state a battery health figure. Adding all twelve savings together produces a number the data does not support, which is why the best-case combination is published as an observed figure of 21.8 days rather than as a sum. Treat the individual savings as a ranking of what to do first, not as a tally.

How fast will my EV sell? Estimator
Start with a model's own 2026 result and adjust it for the things a seller controls. Every adjustment is the difference between that group's mean and the 42.8-day national mean, taken straight from the tables on this page. Leave a field on its average and it contributes nothing, so the estimate for a model with everything averaged is exactly that model's published figure.
Coefficients are the group means from Tables 9, 11, 13, 15, 16, 24, 25 and 26, each expressed against the 42.8-day national mean. The total adjustment is capped at 57.6 days, the observed spread between the best and worst controllable combination, and the estimate is floored at 15 days. Selecting a price band as well as a model applies the price effect twice for that model, so use the price band only when it differs from the model's own average.

Every figure on this page comes from the EV Cable Hub UK EV Lifecycle Panel 2026, a single dataset in five components covering 74 models and 1,486,200 vehicle-months of UK observation. The 2026 edition reports the twelve months to 30 June 2026.
1. EV Cable Hub Listing Tracker 2026. 412,860 UK electric vehicle retail listings tracked daily from first appearance to removal between 1 January 2021 and 30 June 2026. The 2026 edition reports the 88,412 used and 34,860 new listings live at any point in the twelve months to 30 June 2026. Days to sell is measured as the number of calendar days between the listing first going live and the listing being removed following a confirmed sale. Listings removed without a confirmed sale are recorded separately as withdrawals and excluded from the days-to-sell means. Relisted vehicles are matched on vehicle identity and treated as a single continuous listing, which is why the figures here run longer than a simple per-advert count would.2. EV Cable Hub Transaction Panel 2026. 96,412 verified completed UK EV sales with a confirmed transaction price between 1 January 2021 and 30 June 2026, used to establish market value, opening price accuracy and the size of price reductions. The opening-price accuracy bands in the price movement section are computed against this transaction record rather than against an asking-price estimate.3. EV Cable Hub Owner Odometer Survey 2026. 38,914 UK EV owners surveyed between February and April 2026 on odometer reading, battery state of health, charging habits, home charging equipment and cable ownership. Quotas were set to match the UK EV parc by model, segment, age and region. This is the source of the measured state of health figures used to check stated ones.4. EV Cable Hub Charging Behaviour Panel 2026. 24,180 UK EVs with twelve months of logged charging data to 30 June 2026, covering the AC and DC energy split, session frequency, home charging power and the cable rating actually in use. It is the source of the 84.6% home-charging share quoted in the charging specification section.5. EV Cable Hub order data. 214,600 anonymised charging cable, granny charger and adapter orders placed between January 2021 and June 2026, used for equipment ownership patterns.Inclusion rules. A model qualifies for the ranked table with a minimum of 120 confirmed used sales in the twelve-month window. Nine of the 74 models are no longer sold new and appear in the used ranking only, which is why the new-stock table carries 65 rows. Eighteen models launched after 2022 have shorter used histories and are flagged as such in the model notes.Limitations. The listing sample skews towards franchised and independent dealer stock; private sales are 6.4% of the sample against a larger share of the real market, so the private-seller figure is the least robust in the study. Eighteen of the 74 models have fewer than 24 months of used market history, so their days-to-sell figures are real but their year-on-year comparisons are computed over a shorter base. Days to sell measures time to a confirmed sale, not time to a completed handover, so delivery lead times are excluded. Demand intensity is measured on listing platform search behaviour, which under-represents buyers who search by body style rather than by model name. Regional figures are assigned by the seller's location rather than the buyer's, so cross-border purchases are attributed to the selling region. The Northern Ireland sample is the smallest of the twelve regions at 1.9% of listings and carries the widest interval. Colour is recorded as the manufacturer's name mapped to twelve standard groups, with two-tone finishes attributed to the body colour. Where a section reports an effect after controlling for price or age, the control is a stratified comparison within bands rather than a regression, and the bands are published beside it.
