Overview

Why our buyers chose Type 2 to Commando EV Charging Cable (32A CEE).

This lead charges an EV from a blue 32A Commando socket at up to 7kW. We build them to order here in the UK and electrically test every one before it leaves the workshop.

Commando sockets, properly known as CEE or IEC 60309, are the blue outlets on caravan pitches, building sites, marina pontoons and trade workshops. A plug adapter alone will not charge a car from one: the vehicle needs a Mode 2 control box to generate the control pilot signal and run the handshake before any current flows. That control box is built into this cable, with residual current protection and live temperature monitoring on the supply plug.

Choosing your specification

  • Vehicle connector: Type 2 fits almost every EV sold new in the UK since 2018. Type 1 covers the older Nissan Leaf, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the first generation BMW i3.
  • Length: 2m to 30m, so you can reach a site board or a pitch bollard without stretching the lead.
  • Standards: IEC 62196-2 for the Type 2 connector, IEC 62752 for the Mode 2 control box, CE marked.

Free UK delivery over £150, same-day dispatch before 4pm. See adapters and accessories.

Features

What it actually does.

01

Full wallbox speed from a site socket

A 32A single phase Commando supply delivers up to 7kW, roughly 25 to 30 miles of range an hour, the same as a home wallbox.

02

Control box built into the lead

Generates the control pilot the car expects and cuts power if it detects a fault. A passive adapter cannot do either.

03

Temperature monitored plug

The supply plug is watched while charging and the unit throttles or stops if the socket starts running hot.

04

Made to order in the UK

Assembled and tested in a UK workshop rather than pulled off a container.

Getting started

No installation needed.

This is a plug-and-charge cable: there's nothing to install. Plug the Type 2 end into your home wallbox (or an untethered public AC charge point) and the other end into your car. For 3-pin charging, connect to a standard domestic socket for a slower top-up.

Push both connectors fully home until they click, and always unplug from the charge point first when you've finished.

What's in the box

Everything you need.

FAQs

Honest answers.

If the pitch has a 32A Commando socket, yes. Many pitches are 16A rather than 32A. On a 16A supply this lead will not be a match, so check the bollard rating with the site before you travel.
An adapter only changes the shape of the plug. A car will not draw current from a Commando socket without a Mode 2 control box generating the pilot signal, which is built into this lead.
This is for blue single phase sockets at 32A. Red sockets are three phase at 400V and use a different pinout, so they need a different lead.
Type 2 for almost every EV sold new in the UK since 2018. Type 1 for the older Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and first generation BMW i3. Check the shape of your car's charge port if you are unsure.
It is built for outdoor use while charging, but the supply socket itself must be rated and installed for outdoor use. Do not leave the plug lying in standing water.
