Overview

Why our buyers chose Smart Compatible V2L (Vehicle to Load) | EV Discharge Cable.

A simple adapter power source (Smart only)

This V2L (Vehicle to Load) cable turns a Smart #1 or Smart #3 into a mobile power source for household appliances. You may also see the idea described as Vehicle to Device, or V2D. Plug the adapter into your Type 2 charge port, select the discharge option on the car's infotainment display, and you have mains power wherever the car is parked. Camping kit, tools, a kettle a long way from a socket: it all works.

You can draw up to 3kW of load, depending on the car model.

One important warning. Vehicle to load cables must never be connected to any other electrical system, because there is no voltage or phase synchronisation between the two. Ignoring that will void your vehicle warranty and has the potential to cause serious damage both to the connected system and to the car itself.

What IP44 means here

The IP44 ingress protection rating means the cable will work in dusty conditions and shrug off splashes of water while mated. It is not a full water seal, though, and the cable should never be submerged.

Cable information

  • 16A, 3G1.5, 10.5mm diameter

Looking after it

  • Keep it out of puddles. Outdoor storage is fine.
  • Use the rubber dust cover when the cable is not in use, so debris does not collect in the connector.
  • Moisture is the problem we see most often, and the pin corrosion it causes is not covered by warranty.

What about rain?

Water can find its way into the plug and the car's socket during the moments you are inserting or removing the connector. In practice, the instant you open the charge port or unplug, rain lands on the pins and sits there until the next time you connect. Dry the pins where you can and use the cover. Features

What it actually does.

01

Mains power wherever the car is parked

Plug the adapter into the Type 2 charge port, select the discharge option on the infotainment display, and you have a socket. Camping kit, tools, a kettle a long way from a socket: it all works.

02

Up to 3kW of load

Depending on the car model. That is a useful ceiling for most portable appliances and site tools.

03

Fits both Smart EVs

One cable covers the Smart #1 and the Smart #3.

04

Choice of six outlets

UK 1 Gang and 2 Gang, CEE 1P 16A, Schuko, plus waterproof 1 Gang and 2 Gang for outdoor use.

05

16A, IP44 rated cable

3G1.5 conductor, 10.5mm diameter. It works in dusty conditions and shrugs off splashes while mated. It is not a full water seal, so never submerge it.

Getting started

No installation needed.

This is a plug-and-charge cable: there's nothing to install. Plug the Type 2 end into your home wallbox (or an untethered public AC charge point) and the other end into your car. For 3-pin charging, connect to a standard domestic socket for a slower top-up.

Push both connectors fully home until they click, and always unplug from the charge point first when you've finished.

FAQs

Honest answers.

It is built for the Smart #1 and Smart #3, and it is Smart only. Other makes use different discharge arrangements.
Up to 3kW depending on the car model. In practice that means camping kit, hand tools, lighting, a kettle and similar appliances. Anything rated above what the car will supply simply will not start.
No. Vehicle to load cables must never be connected to any other electrical system, because there is no voltage or phase synchronisation between the two. Ignoring that will void your vehicle warranty and has the potential to cause serious damage both to the connected system and to the car itself.
Yes. The discharge option appears on the car's infotainment display, so the function has to be present in the vehicle. The cable provides the outlet and nothing more.
Water can find its way into the plug and the car's socket during the moments you are inserting or removing the connector, and it sits on the pins until the next time you connect. Dry the pins where you can and use the rubber dust cover. Pin corrosion caused by moisture is not covered by warranty.
0.5m and 2.5m keep everything close to the car, 5m is the usual all-rounder, and 10m or 15m suit a pitch or a work area at some distance. Order a little longer than the measured run so the cable is not under tension.
