Overview

Mains power from your Hyundai INSTER

Hyundai gave its smallest electric car the same V2L trick as the bigger IONIQs. Plug this lead in and the INSTER will run a laptop, a lamp or a travel kettle from its battery.

Switching it on

Plug it into the Type 2 charge port and press the button on the Type 2 connector. The same button turns it off.

What it will run

Up to 3kW through a UK 3-pin outlet, or 3.6kW on CEE and Schuko, depending on the car. A 60W laptop charger, a 45W cool box and LED lights barely register. A standard 3kW kettle is right at the limit through the 3-pin socket, so a 2kW travel kettle is the safer choice, and the same goes for fan heaters on full.

Which car it fits

Hyundai INSTER. The car decides whether discharge is available, so the lead only works on models that support V2L. If you are unsure, our car finder will check your registration.

An important warning

A vehicle-to-load lead must never be connected to any other electrical system, such as a house, a caravan hook-up or a generator inlet. There is no voltage or phase synchronisation, so doing it can seriously damage both the car and the other system, and it will void your vehicle warranty.

The lead itself

  • 16A cable, 3G1.5 conductor, 10.5mm diameter
  • IP44: works in dusty conditions and resists splashes while connected, but must never sit in water
  • Black, with a choice of outlet and lengths from 0.5m to 15m
  • Keep the rubber dust cap on when it is stored, so grit and moisture stay out of the pins

Other Hyundai leads are on our Hyundai V2L page, and every car we cover is in the V2L adapter range.

FAQs

Does the INSTER really support V2L?
Yes, the INSTER is on the fitment list. Plug the lead into the charge port and press the button on the Type 2 connector to start the supply.
How do I switch the discharge on?
Plug it into the Type 2 charge port and press the button on the Type 2 connector. The same button turns it off.
How much can I run from it?
Up to 3kW through a UK 3-pin outlet, or 3.6kW on CEE and Schuko, depending on the car. A 60W laptop charger, a 45W cool box and LED lights barely register. A standard 3kW kettle is right at the limit through the 3-pin socket, so a 2kW travel kettle is the safer choice, and the same goes for fan heaters on full.
Which length should I choose?
The 0.5m lead suits plugging in an extension next to the car. Go for 5m or 10m if you want the socket at a tent, an awning or a workbench without trailing anything else.
Can I plug it into my house or a caravan hook-up?
No. A vehicle-to-load lead must never be connected to any other electrical system, such as a house, a caravan hook-up or a generator inlet. There is no voltage or phase synchronisation, so doing it can seriously damage both the car and the other system, and it will void your vehicle warranty.

What customers say about us

  • 10m and 5m cables for untethered charger use

Bought one 10m cable to use with an untethered wall charger at home. Very impressed with quality so bought a second 5m cable to keep in the van in case I needed to use an untethered charger when on the road. Cables are well made and sufficiently flexible to allow easy use. I particularly like the fact that there are covers fitted at both ends to keep the contacts clean when not in use - many cables only have a cover at one end. Customer service and prompt delivery were first rate.
