Overview

A simple adapter power source (Ford only)

This V2L (Vehicle to Load) cable turns the Ford Capri and Ford Explorer into a mobile power source for household appliances. You may also see the idea described as Vehicle to Device, or V2D. Plug the adapter into your Type 2 charge port, switch discharge on using the push-button on the Type 2 connector, and you have mains power wherever the vehicle is parked. Camping kit, tools, a kettle a long way from a socket: it all works.

Compatible models

  • Ford Capri
  • Ford Explorer

Up to 3kW from the UK 3-pin outlets and up to 3.6kW from the CEE and Schuko outlets, depending on the car.

One important warning. Vehicle to load cables must never be connected to any other electrical system, because there is no voltage or phase synchronisation between the two. Ignoring that will void your vehicle warranty and has the potential to cause serious damage both to the connected system and to the vehicle itself.

What IP44 means here

The IP44 ingress protection rating means the cable will work in dusty conditions and shrug off splashes of water while mated. It is not a full water seal, though, and the cable should never be submerged.

Cable information

  • 16A, 3G1.5, 10.5mm diameter

Looking after it

  • Keep it out of puddles. Outdoor storage is fine.
  • Use the rubber dust cover when the cable is not in use, so debris does not collect in the connector.
  • Moisture is the problem we see most often, and the pin corrosion it causes is not covered by warranty.

What about rain?

Water can find its way into the plug and the vehicle's socket during the moments you are inserting or removing the connector. Dry the pins where you can and use the cover. More options in our V2L adapters range.

FAQs

Will it work on any Ford?
No. It is built for Ford Capri, Ford Explorer. Other makes use different discharge arrangements.
What can I run from it?
Up to 3kW from the UK 3-pin outlets and up to 3.6kW from the CEE and Schuko outlets, depending on the car. In practice that means camping kit, hand tools, lighting, a kettle and similar appliances. Anything rated above what the vehicle will supply simply will not start.
Can I wire it into my home supply?
No. Vehicle to load cables must never be connected to any other electrical system, because there is no voltage or phase synchronisation between the two. Ignoring that will void your vehicle warranty and has the potential to cause serious damage both to the connected system and to the vehicle itself.
What about using it in the rain?
Water can find its way into the plug and the vehicle's socket during the moments you are inserting or removing the connector, and it sits on the pins until the next time you connect. Dry the pins where you can and use the rubber dust cover. Pin corrosion caused by moisture is not covered by warranty.
Which length makes sense?
0.5m and 2.5m keep everything close to the vehicle, 5m is the usual all-rounder, and 10m or 15m suit a pitch or a work area at some distance. Order a little longer than the measured run so the cable is not under tension.

What customers say about us

  • 10m and 5m cables for untethered charger use

Bought one 10m cable to use with an untethered wall charger at home. Very impressed with quality so bought a second 5m cable to keep in the van in case I needed to use an untethered charger when on the road. Cables are well made and sufficiently flexible to allow easy use. I particularly like the fact that there are covers fitted at both ends to keep the contacts clean when not in use - many cables only have a cover at one end. Customer service and prompt delivery were first rate.
