Overview

The Solterra is Subaru's electric SUV, built alongside the Toyota bZ4X and sharing its charging hardware. It uses a Type 2 socket, and the onboard AC charger is more modest than the size of the car suggests.

That last point is worth pausing on, because it is where people overspend. A large battery makes buyers reach for the fastest cable on the shelf, but AC charging speed is set by the car's onboard charger, not by the pack. On the Solterra that ceiling is low enough that the 32amp single-phase lead is already more than the car will draw, and the 22kW three-phase cable is simply the wrong purchase.

Because the AC rate is modest, length matters more than rating here. Buy the lead that reaches comfortably, and use rapid DC chargers when you actually need speed.

Every cable is CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated and carries a two-year warranty. The Toyota charging cables page covers the same platform.

Features

  • Matched to the Solterra charge port

The Solterra charges through a Type 2 socket, and every cable here ends in the matching connector.

  • A big battery does not mean a fast AC charger

AC speed is set by the car's onboard charger, not the size of the pack. On the Solterra that ceiling is lower than the car's size suggests.

  • 32amp single phase is already ample

The car will not draw more, so the three-phase lead is the wrong purchase however large the battery is.

  • Shares its hardware with the Toyota bZ4X

The Solterra and bZ4X are the same car underneath, so the same Type 2 leads suit both.

Installation

  1. 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
  2. 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
  3. 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
  4. 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

FAQs

What cable does the Subaru Solterra need?
A Type 2 lead. The 32amp single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable covers it comfortably.
The battery is big, so why not the 22kW cable?
Because AC charging speed comes from the car's onboard charger rather than the battery. The Solterra's is modest, so a three-phase lead would sit unused.
Is it the same as the Toyota bZ4X?
Yes for charging purposes. They share a platform and the same Type 2 arrangement.
What is covered by the warranty?
Every cable we sell carries a 24 month manufacturer warranty, on top of CE and TUV certification and an IP55 weather rating. Returns are 30 days.

What customers say about us

  • First class service

First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
