Overview

Mains power from your Smart #1

With this lead in the charge port, the Smart #1 runs appliances from its battery through a UK socket. Camping kit and a kettle on a long stop both work fine from it.

Switching it on

Plug it into the Type 2 charge port, then choose the discharge option on the infotainment screen.

What it will run

Up to 3kW of load, depending on the model. A 60W laptop charger, a 45W cool box and LED lights barely register. A standard 3kW kettle is right at the limit through the 3-pin socket, so a 2kW travel kettle is the safer choice, and the same goes for fan heaters on full.

Which car it fits

Smart #1. The car decides whether discharge is available, so the lead only works on models that support V2L. If you are unsure, our car finder will check your registration.

An important warning

A vehicle-to-load lead must never be connected to any other electrical system, such as a house, a caravan hook-up or a generator inlet. There is no voltage or phase synchronisation, so doing it can seriously damage both the car and the other system, and it will void your vehicle warranty.

The lead itself

  • 16A cable, 3G1.5 conductor, 10.5mm diameter
  • IP44: works in dusty conditions and resists splashes while connected, but must never sit in water
  • Black, with a choice of outlet and lengths from 0.5m to 15m
  • Keep the rubber dust cap on when it is stored, so grit and moisture stay out of the pins

Other Smart leads are on our Smart V2L page, and every car we cover is in the V2L adapter range.

FAQs

Does it fit the Smart #1?
Yes, the Smart #1 is on the fitment list. Choose the discharge option on the infotainment screen after plugging the lead in.
How do I switch the discharge on?
Plug it into the Type 2 charge port, then choose the discharge option on the infotainment screen.
How much can I run from it?
Up to 3kW of load, depending on the model. A 60W laptop charger, a 45W cool box and LED lights barely register. A standard 3kW kettle is right at the limit through the 3-pin socket, so a 2kW travel kettle is the safer choice, and the same goes for fan heaters on full.
Which length should I choose?
The 0.5m lead suits plugging in an extension next to the car. Go for 5m or 10m if you want the socket at a tent, an awning or a workbench without trailing anything else.
Can I plug it into my house or a caravan hook-up?
No. A vehicle-to-load lead must never be connected to any other electrical system, such as a house, a caravan hook-up or a generator inlet. There is no voltage or phase synchronisation, so doing it can seriously damage both the car and the other system, and it will void your vehicle warranty.

What customers say about us

  • First class service

First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
