Overview
The Zoe is a five-door hatchback roughly the size of a Fiesta, roomier inside than that suggests, cheaper to buy than most of its rivals and well kitted out as standard. In decent weather it will cover around 150 miles on a full charge. Buyers also got a wall-mounted 7kW charger installed at home for the lithium-ion pack, which is a real plus. It was designed for town work and it is easy, and genuinely fun, to drive there.
The Zoe charges on Type 2, so a Type 2 to Type 2 lead is the one that lives in the boot. We stock it in 5m and 10m, with 15m and 20m listed for awkward parking, in 16A and 32A single-phase and 32A three-phase (3.6kW, 7.2kW and 22kW). Both connector ends meet IEC 62196-2, the UK and EU standard, so the same cable works on a home wallbox, at the office and on a public post: Ohme, Pod Point, Zappi, Hypervolt, myenergi, Wallbox, EO, Andersen and Tesla units included.
How long does a Renault Zoe take to charge?
The Zoe carries a 22 kWh lithium-ion pack, and the time depends on what you plug into and how empty you started. Rough estimates from flat:
- Standard household socket at 2.3kW: about 12 to 13 hours to full.
- Level 2 charger at 7.4kW: about 4 to 5 hours to full.
- DC rapid charger at 43kW: about an hour to 80 per cent, with the last stretch to 100 per cent taking longer.
Treat those as estimates. Battery temperature, ambient temperature and the state of charge you begin from all move the number.
Can I charge the Zoe in the rain?
Yes. The connectors and the cable are built for outdoor use: the jacket is rated IP55 and the cable is specified from -30°C to +60°C, and the sheath is run-over proof. Sensible habits still help. Keep the rubber caps on both plugs when the lead is stored, do not leave a connector face-up in a puddle, and coil the cable off the ground rather than in standing water.
Do you stock a Zoe 3-pin cable?
We do. A Type 2 to 3-pin lead plugs straight into an ordinary UK domestic socket, so you can charge without a wallbox installed, and it is available in 5m and 10m.
