Overview

The Polestar 4 carries a 100kWh pack, 94kWh of it usable, and charges through a Type 2 socket with an 11kW onboard charger. The battery is what makes the cable choice matter here more than it does on a small hatch.

Run the numbers. On a normal single-phase home wallbox the car draws 7.4kW, which is close to thirteen hours from empty. That is fine if you top up nightly from half full, which is how most people actually live with a big battery. It is not fine if you routinely run the pack down and need it back by morning. Three-phase at 11kW brings the same charge to around eight and a half hours.

Choosing your lead

  • Type 2 to Type 2. The everyday lead, at home and on public posts. 5m if the charger sits beside your parking space, 10m if it is on the far wall or you rely on street bays.
  • Type 2 to 3-pin. A Mode 2 lead for a household socket. At 2.3kW it will not fill this battery overnight, but it is worth having in the boot for somewhere with no charger at all.

Every cable we sell is CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated, and carries a two-year warranty. Most Polestar 4 owners on a single-phase supply want the 7.4kW single-phase lead.

Installation

  1. 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
  2. 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
  3. 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
  4. 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

FAQs

What cable does the Polestar 4 need?
A Type 2 lead. For most owners that is the 32amp single-phase Type 2 to Type 2 cable, which works at home and on public posts.
How long does a full charge take?
On a single-phase home wallbox the car draws 7.4kW, so 94kWh usable is close to thirteen hours from empty. Three-phase at 11kW brings that to around eight and a half.
Is the 22kW three-phase cable worth it?
On this car, more than on most. It only helps if you actually have three-phase at the property or use 22kW public posts, but the saving is several hours rather than a few minutes.
What is covered by the warranty?
Every cable we sell carries a 24 month manufacturer warranty, on top of CE and TUV certification and an IP55 weather rating. Returns are 30 days.
