Overview
Peugeot has been building genuinely handsome cars lately, and the 208 is now sold as a pure electric vehicle for the first time. The e-208 runs a 100kW motor and a 50kWh battery, good for a zero-emission range of up to 211 miles from a full charge, subject as always to operating conditions.
Out of the box, the e-208 charges from the supplied Type 2 cable through a 3-pin plug, which takes somewhere around twenty hours. A dedicated home charging point is both quicker and safer, at roughly 8 hours for a full charge, and a 100kW charging station will take the battery to 80% far faster again. For anyone charging regularly, we would upgrade the Peugeot e-208 charging cable to a Type 2 three-phase 32 Amp lead. The options are in our Type 2 charging cable range.

What does it cost to charge?
That depends entirely on where you plug in and what you pay per unit, and rates move about. For most owners the answer is a charge point at home with a suitable cable on it. With a 50kWh battery, a full charge works out at roughly £6.25 on average, which is about 2.8p per mile.
Are the batteries ruinous to replace?
Less than you might think. Battery prices have been falling as the technology matures, and Peugeot covers the e-208 battery for the first eight years or 100,000 miles under its own manufacturer warranty, provided the car is serviced on schedule. That cover stays with the vehicle rather than the owner, which helps when it comes time to sell.
How is the e-208 charged?
Current Peugeot electric models use Combined Charging System sockets, so the car will take a charge from a standard 16 Amp Type 2 charge point, a domestic plug socket, or a public rapid charger. Moving up to a 32 Amp e-208 charging cable is the simplest way to shorten the wait.
Will this cable work at public charging stations?
Yes. The same lead covers home and public charging. Plug the Type 2 connector into the car, plug the other end into the charging station, and it works. If public charging is the main reason you are buying, choose the three-phase option to get the best speed the post can give you.
