Overview
Short journeys, tight streets, and a car that still handles like a MINI: the MINI Electric was built for exactly the sort of use most UK drivers put a car to. It is a fully electric city car with a range of up to 145 miles (WLTP), so charging becomes something you do overnight rather than something you plan a day around, provided you have the right lead.
The car takes a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable and its onboard charger tops out at 11 kW on AC. For the fastest home or public AC charging we recommend the three-phase 32A cable, which fills the MINI Electric in around 3 hours 15 minutes. On a compatible rapid charger it also accepts DC at up to 50 kW, taking it from 0 to 80% in approximately 35 minutes.
AC charging times, empty to full
| Cable type | Capacity | Charging time | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type 2, 1-phase 16A | 3.7 kW | 9 hours 15 mins | |
| Type 2, 1-phase 32A | 7.4 kW | 4 hours 45 mins | |
| Type 2, 3-phase 32A | 22 kW | 3 hours 15 mins | Best fit |
| Type 2 to 3-pin | 2.3 kW | 14 hours (approx.) | Ideal for home charging |
Choosing your lead
- Type 2 to Type 2, in 5m and 10m: the standard choice, compatible with home wall boxes and public charging stations across the UK.
- Type 2 to 3-pin, in 5m and 10m: runs from an ordinary household socket, which is the practical answer when there is no wall box available.
Both are CE marked and TÜV certified, IP66 rated so they can live outside, and come with a two-year manufacturer warranty. Free UK delivery applies on orders over £150, same-day dispatch if you order before 4pm, and 30 days to change your mind. If you regularly park a few spaces from the charge post, look at our 10m EV charging cables before settling on 5m.

Features
-
Run-over proof
Built to take the weight of a car, so you can drive over the cable without damaging it (protection against pressure).
-
All-weather rated
Rated IP55, with the Type 2 to 3-Pin version rated IP67, and built to operate from -30°C to +60°C, so it charges reliably through UK rain, frost and summer heat.
-
Universal Type 2 fit
Works with all Type 2 electric vehicles and every UK/EU home wallbox and public AC charge point. No brand lock-in.
-
CE / TÜV certified
Independently certified to CE and TÜV, and built to the IEC 62196-2 Type 2 connector standard.
-
3-pin option for home sockets
Choose the 3-pin version to top up from a standard UK domestic socket when there is no wallbox nearby. It is a separate cable option, not an attachment.
-
Three-phase option
Pick the 32A three-phase version to charge at up to 22kW where a three-phase supply is available. The single-phase versions charge at up to 7.2kW on a standard home wallbox.
Installation
- 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
- 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
- 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
- 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

First class service
First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
