Overview

The electric Puma keeps the small crossover shape that sold the petrol version and puts a modest battery underneath. It charges on Type 2, with an 11kW onboard charger.

The small battery is the reason charging is rarely the problem people expect. On a 7.4kW home wallbox you are looking at a handful of hours from low to full, an evening rather than an overnight, and a 32A single-phase cable covers that without breaking a sweat. If you have a three-phase supply, the 22kW lead shortens it again, though on a battery this size you are trimming an already short session.

Choosing your lead

  • Type 2 to Type 2. The everyday cable, equally at home on a wallbox or a public post. 5m if the charger sits beside where you park, 10m if it is on the far wall or you use public bays.
  • Type 2 to 3-pin. A Mode 2 lead for a household socket, 2.3kW and slow with it. Not a main charger, but worth keeping in the boot. See our granny chargers.

What cable does the Puma Gen-E take?
