Overview
The 330e is BMW's plug-in hybrid saloon: the handling the badge is known for, with enough electric-only range to cover short local runs and a petrol engine for everything longer. Keeping it topped up is straightforward once you have the right lead, whether at home or on a public post.
It charges through a Type 2 to Type 2 charging cable, and its onboard charger tops out at 3.7 kW (AC). That means a 1-phase, 16A lead already delivers the fastest charge the car is capable of accepting. A higher-rated cable will not speed things up, though it does future-proof you if your next car has a beefier onboard charger.

Three-phase option
Pick the 32A three-phase version to charge at up to 22kW where a three-phase supply is available. The single-phase versions charge at up to 7.2kW on a standard home wallbox.
Installation
- 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
- 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
- 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
- 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.
