Overview
The A290 is the interesting one to drive and the dull one to charge, which is exactly how it should be. A Type 2 socket, an 11kW onboard charger and a 52kWh battery put it in the same bracket as the Renault 5 it shares a platform with.
Fifty-two kilowatt hours is a small pack by current standards, and that works in your favour. On an ordinary single-phase wallbox at 7.4kW a full charge takes about seven hours, so the car is ready whenever you are without any planning. The 22kW three-phase lead would bring that under five, but it needs three-phase power at the property, which very few British homes have.
Choosing your lead
- Type 2 to Type 2. The daily lead, at home and on public posts. 5m covers a charger next to the car, 10m covers most driveways and street bays.
- Type 2 to 3-pin. A Mode 2 lead for a household socket at 2.3kW. Slow, but it turns any plug into a charge point when you are away.
Every cable is CE and TUV certified, IP55 rated, and carries a two-year warranty. Alpine shares its charging hardware with Renault, so the Renault charging cables page is worth a look too.

Features
-
Matched to the A290 charge port
The A290 charges through a Type 2 socket with an 11kW onboard charger, and every cable here ends in the matching connector.
-
A small battery charges without planning
52kWh at 7.4kW is about seven hours, so an ordinary single-phase wallbox has the car ready whenever you are.
-
Three-phase needs three-phase at the house
The 22kW lead would bring a full charge under five hours, but very few British homes have the supply to use it.
-
Shares its charging hardware with Renault
The A290 sits on the same platform as the Renault 5, so the same Type 2 leads suit both.
Installation
- 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
- 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
- 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
- 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

First class service
First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
