Wall mounting brackets attach an EV wallbox to a brick, render, timber-frame or post-mounted pole — universal and brand-specific brackets for tidy installs across UK domestic and commercial sites. The right bracket reduces install time, improves long-term durability, and avoids the "wallbox-on-bare-screws" look that ages badly.
When you need a separate bracket
Most wallboxes ship with a wall plate — a basic mounting bracket included in the box, suitable for solid brick or block walls. Buy a separate bracket if:
- Your wall is render, plasterboard, timber-frame or other non-solid material — needs a longer-screw or backing-plate bracket.
- You're mounting on a post or pole — driveway-end installation away from the building.
- You're mounting in a covered way (carport, garage) — sometimes needs a tilt-bracket to keep the connector pointing the right way.
- You're upgrading from an older bracket — sometimes the bracket fails or is rust-stained before the wallbox.
Bracket types we stock
- Universal Type 2 wall plate — fits most rear-mount wallboxes (Ohme, Easee, Project EV, Pod Point variant). Stainless steel fixings. £20-40.
- Brand-specific brackets — Ohme, Pod Point, Zappi, Hypervolt, Andersen, Rolec. Designed to mount the specific wallbox without compromise. £30-80.
- Pole / post mount — for free-standing driveway installs away from the house. Requires a 50-100mm steel post embedded in concrete. £80-150.
- Render / plasterboard backing plate — distributes mounting load across studs / blockwork behind a soft surface. £30-60.
- Tilt bracket / angle adjuster — angles the wallbox 5-15° to optimise cable drop angle. £40-80. Niche.
Mounting depth and clearance
Most UK wallboxes need:
- 30-50mm clearance behind for cable entry from the wall — match this with the bracket's stand-off depth.
- 200-300mm clearance below for the cable to hang naturally without stress.
- 50-100mm clearance above for ventilation (some wallboxes need this; check your model's install datasheet).
Fixing materials by wall type
- Solid brick or block — 8mm masonry plugs + 8mm × 80mm screws. Standard.
- Render over block — same as above, drill through the render to the substrate.
- Timber frame — 6mm × 80mm coach screws into structural studs. Don't fix to plasterboard alone.
- Plasterboard with no stud behind — heavy-duty butterfly anchor or chemical anchor. Or fit a backing plate.
- Steel post — purpose-built post-mount bracket; don't try to drill steel posts on-site.
Pairing with cable management
The bracket holds the wallbox; the cable holder manages the cable. Both work together — bracket positions the wallbox, holder positions the cable when not charging. Buy them together for a tidy install.
Outdoor exposure
UK weather is unforgiving. Use stainless steel or galvanised fixings — not plain steel, not chrome-plated — or you'll see rust streaks down the wall within 6 months. Most quality brackets specify A2 stainless minimum; A4 (marine grade) for coastal locations.
