Overview
The MX-30 is Mazda's take on the electric crossover, and a deliberately modest one: a 35.5 kWh battery (30.0 kWh usable) giving somewhere around 124 miles (200 km) of range. Smaller battery, shorter charge, which is not a bad trade if your driving is mostly local.
How long does an MX-30 take to charge?
Three things decide it: the battery capacity, the output of the charge point, and the cable in between. From empty, a charging station with an output of at least 7.2 kW will fill the MX-30 in approximately 7 hours, which is a comfortable overnight. Step up to a 22 kW fast charger and you are looking at roughly 30 minutes to 80%. Worth knowing that habitual fast charging puts more strain on the cells and will shorten the battery's overall lifespan, so we would use it when you need it rather than as the default.
Can I charge it from a three-pin socket?
Yes. The MX-30 comes with a Type 2 AC charging cable that has a Type 2 plug at the car end and a standard household plug at the other, so it will run from an ordinary domestic outlet. A typical UK three-pin socket delivers around 2.3 kW, which works out at approximately 20 hours from empty to full. Fine as an occasional fallback, slow as a daily habit.

Installation
- 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
- 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
- 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
- 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.
