Overview
The Kona Electric is Hyundai's compact electric SUV and one of the longer-legged cars in its class: depending on the variant, up to 300 miles on the WLTP cycle. It charges on Type 2.
What matters when you are choosing a cable is the onboard AC charger, which tops out at 7.2 kW. A 1-Phase, 32A lead reaches that ceiling, so it is the fastest the car will charge on AC and the right buy for nearly every Kona owner. A 3-Phase cable will not charge it any quicker, though it does leave you covered if your next car has a faster onboard charger. On DC the Kona will take up to 100 kW, which gets you from 10 to 80% in around 47 minutes at a compatible rapid charger, and that uses the charger's own tethered lead rather than anything you carry.
What we would put in your boot
- Type 2 to Type 2 Charging Cable: the everyday lead for home wall boxes and public charging stations across the UK. Available in 5m and 10m.
- Type 2 to 3-Pin Charging Cable: draws from a standard UK household socket, which makes it a sensible backup when there is no dedicated wall box to hand. Available in 5m and 10m.
All our EV charging cables are CE / TUV safety certified, weather-resistant with an IP66 rating, and come with a two-year manufacturer's warranty. UK delivery is free on orders over £150.
Hyundai Kona Electric AC charging times, empty to full
Because the onboard charger caps at 7.2 kW, the 1-Phase 32A and 3-Phase 32A cables produce identical times.
| Cable Type | Capacity | Charging Time | Our Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type 2, 1-phase, 16A | 3.7 kW | 10 hours 30 mins | |
| Type 2, 1-phase, 32A | 7.4 kW | 5 hours 30 mins | Best Fit |
| Type 2, 3-phase, 32A | 22 kW | 5 hours 30 mins | |
| Type 2 to 3-Pin | 2.3 kW | 17 hours (approx.) | Ideal for home charging |
If you are torn between two options, tell us how far the car parks from your charge point and we will tell you which lead to buy. The full range is in Type 2 charging cables.
Every lead we stock for Hyundai is listed on our Hyundai charging cables page.

All-weather rated
Rated IP55, with the Type 2 to 3-Pin version rated IP67, and built to operate from -30°C to +60°C, so it charges reliably through UK rain, frost and summer heat.
-
Universal Type 2 fit
Works with all Type 2 electric vehicles and every UK/EU home wallbox and public AC charge point. No brand lock-in.
-
CE / TÜV certified
Independently certified to CE and TÜV, and built to the IEC 62196-2 Type 2 connector standard.
-
3-pin option for home sockets
Choose the 3-pin version to top up from a standard UK domestic socket when there is no wallbox nearby. It is a separate cable option, not an attachment.

- 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.

First class service
First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
