Overview

The 500 has been a city car with more character than the average euro-box since 1957, and the electric version keeps the brief: small, cheerful, and made for short urban runs where a full battery lasts most of the week. Charging it is a Type 2 job, and this is the lead that does it.

We supply the 500e cable in 5m and 10m, in 16A and 32A single-phase, covering 3.6kW and 7.2kW. The 32A version pulls the most a single-phase supply will give you and is the sensible default for a home wallbox. The 16A is a lighter, cheaper lead if your charge point is limited anyway. Both ends are Type 2 to IEC 62196-2 (seven pin, sometimes called MENNEKES), so the same cable serves a home unit, a workplace charger and a public post, including Ohme, Pod Point, Zappi, Hypervolt, myenergi, Wallbox, EO, Andersen and Tesla units.

We also list a Type 2 to 3-pin lead for a household socket. It is slow, and it is not a substitute for a wallbox, but it earns its place in the boot when you are staying somewhere without a charger.

Build details worth knowing: copper conductor at 2.5mm² to 6mm² depending on the current rating, an IP55 jacket, an operating range of -30°C to +60°C, and a run-over proof sheath for the inevitable moment a wheel crosses it. Rubber caps keep water and grit off both plugs in storage. CE marked and TÜV certified to IEC 62196-2.

FAQs

Is this cable compatible with the Fiat 500e?
Yes. The Fiat 500e uses a Type 2 inlet and this is a Type 2 charging cable. If you'd like to double-check, your car's charge port should have a 7-pin Type 2 socket, or use our reg checker.
Which cable length should I choose?
Most driveways are fine with 5m. Choose 7-10m if the charge point is wall-mounted away from where you park or your charge port is on the far side of the car, and 15-20m for on-street or awkward layouts. Available here in 5m, 10m.
Can I use it at public charge points as well as at home?
Yes. This is a Mode 3 Type 2 cable, so it works at your home wallbox and at any untethered public AC charge point. Rapid DC chargers (motorway) come with their own tethered cables, so you don't need one for those.
What's the 3-pin option for?
The 3-pin (Mode 2 'granny') option lets you top up from a standard domestic socket at up to ~2.3kW when you're away from a wallbox. It's a backup for occasional use, not a daily charging method.
Is it safe to leave outside in the rain?
Yes. The cable and connectors are rated IP55 and built for -30°C to +60°C, so they're safe in UK rain, frost and snow. Don't submerge the connectors in standing water.
