Overview
The Audi A6 TFSI e is a plug-in hybrid, so the battery is modest and the onboard AC charger stops at 7kW. That one figure settles the cable question. A Type 2 to Type 2 lead rated at 32A draws everything the car will accept and takes it from empty to full in roughly two hours. A 32A three-phase cable rated at 22kW lands on the same two hours, because the ceiling sits in the car rather than in the lead, so pay for the extra capability only if you expect a faster EV on the driveway later.
Most A6 owners take the 5m or the 10m. We also list 15m and 20m for long driveways and shared car parks where the post is nowhere near the bay. Both ends are Type 2 to IEC 62196-2 (seven pin, sometimes called MENNEKES), which is the UK and EU standard, so one lead covers a home wallbox, a workplace unit and a public post. It works with Ohme, Pod Point, Zappi, Hypervolt, myenergi, Wallbox, EO, Andersen and Tesla units.
Inside is copper conductor sized to the current rating, 2.5mm² up to 6mm². The jacket is rated IP66 and the cable is specified from -30°C to +60°C, which covers a British winter without drama. Rubber caps seal both plugs when the lead is coiled in the boot, keeping grit and water off the contacts, and the sheath is run-over proof if a wheel finds it on the drive. Every cable is CE marked and TÜV certified to IEC 62196-2.
Charging times for the Audi A6 50 TFSI e
Estimated time from empty to full, by charging method.
| Charging method | Typically found at | Charging time | Range per hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3-pin plug, 10/13 amp | Home | 6 h | 5 m/h |
| 3.6kW, 16 amp | Home / work | 4 h | 8 m/h |
| 7kW, 32 amp | Home / work / public locations | 2 h | 16 m/h |
| 22kW, 32 amp three-phase | Work / public locations | 2 h | 16 m/h |
On length: measure the route the cable will actually take, around the car rather than through it, then add a metre. A lead that is slightly short is useless, while one that is slightly long simply coils up in the boot. If your charge point sits on the house wall and you reverse onto the drive, the 10m is usually the safer buy. Still weighing it up? The full range sits in our Type 2 charging cables collection.

Features
-
Run-over proof
Built to take the weight of a car, so you can drive over the cable without damaging it (protection against pressure).
-
All-weather rated
Rated IP55, with the Type 2 to 3-Pin version rated IP67, and built to operate from -30°C to +60°C, so it charges reliably through UK rain, frost and summer heat.
-
Universal Type 2 fit
Works with all Type 2 electric vehicles and every UK/EU home wallbox and public AC charge point. No brand lock-in.
-
CE / TÜV certified
Independently certified to CE and TÜV, and built to the IEC 62196-2 Type 2 connector standard.
-
3-pin option for home sockets
Choose the 3-pin version to top up from a standard UK domestic socket when there is no wallbox nearby. It is a separate cable option, not an attachment.
-
Three-phase option
Pick the 32A three-phase version to charge at up to 22kW where a three-phase supply is available. The single-phase versions charge at up to 7.2kW on a standard home wallbox.
Installation
- 01Unlock the car - most won't accept a cable while locked.
- 02Wallbox end first, then the car. Push until the latch clicks.
- 03Check the car shows a charging state before you walk away.
- 04Coil loosely into the bag - no tight figure-of-eights.

First class service
First class service. Ordered 15m cable and it was delivered next day. Minor hiccup in that the accompanying bag was missing. Quick email to Jake at EV Cable Hub and the bag arrived next working day. 1st class product and even better customer service. Thank you.
