Octopus Intelligent, explained: and which chargers actually work with it

The cheapest tariff in Britain only works with a handful of wallboxes. Here's the list, and how to choose between them.

Octopus Intelligent is, by some distance, the cheapest electricity tariff in the United Kingdom. It is also fussy. The tariff only delivers its full benefit when your car charging is scheduled and dispatched by Octopus's optimisation engine. That engine only talks fluently to a small number of wallboxes.

This piece is the practical version of that conversation. We list the chargers that work with Intelligent, the ones that nominally work but with friction, and the ones that don't. We assume nothing about your tariff, your meter, or your car. We do assume you live in a house with a driveway, because Intelligent (in early 2026) does not yet support apartment chargers reliably.

The fully-supported list

The Ohme Home Pro is the canonical Intelligent charger. Setup takes ninety seconds in the Octopus app. There are no edge cases we've found. We sell more Ohmes to Octopus customers than to anyone else.

The myenergi Zappi works fully and well. The integration is mature. There is a setup gotcha (you must enable Eco+ mode and disable Boost), but Octopus's app walks you through it.

The Andersen A2, with the right firmware (post v3.4), works fully. We pre-update every Andersen we ship to ensure this.

The friction tier

Easee works with Octopus Intelligent via the OCPP backend rather than a direct integration. It works. It is not as smooth as the three above. Setup involves enabling third-party access in the Easee app and pasting an OCPP URL into Octopus's portal.

Wallbox (the brand) works via the same OCPP route. Same caveats.

The not-yet-supported tier

Several units sold in the UK do not currently work with Octopus Intelligent at all. We won't list them by name in this article: the situation is fluid and we don't want to embarrass manufacturers who are working towards integration. If you are buying a charger and care specifically about Octopus Intelligent, we strongly recommend you ring our help desk and ask before ordering.
