The Andersen A2 and the myenergi Zappi are the two most-recommended wallboxes in our shop. They are also, in design philosophy, almost opposites. This piece exists because half the calls our help desk takes are some variant of: which one?
The short answer: if you have solar, buy a Zappi. If you don't, buy whichever makes you happier when you look at the side of your house.
The Zappi argument
The Zappi is a piece of integrated home-energy hardware that happens to charge a car. Its solar diversion is the best on the UK market: measurable, optimised, set-and-forget. Its tariff integration is comprehensive. Its app is functional. Its price is sensible.
If you have a 4 kW solar array, you will save somewhere between £200 and £450 a year on electricity by routing surplus through a Zappi. That covers the cost of the unit in 2-4 years. After that it is free money.
The Andersen argument
The Andersen is a piece of architectural hardware that happens to charge a car. The hidden cable is genuinely transformative. Your house no longer has a coiled rubber python on the front of it. The hand-finished panel options (we particularly like Forest and Bone) age beautifully. The 2-year warranty is the longest in the category.
If you do not have solar, the Andersen's smart-tariff support is good enough. The £400 premium over the Zappi buys you a unit that looks right on a Georgian terrace. Whether that is worth it is a question we cannot answer for you.

Edge cases
If you charge on Octopus Intelligent specifically, both work, but the Ohme Home Pro is a third option worth considering. Its £799 price and OLED display make it the smart-money pick for tariff purists.
If you have multiple cars, neither of these is the right answer. Buy two Easee Ones with dynamic load balancing instead.
