Polestar EV Charging Cables

Polestar EV charging cables compatible with current and recent Polestar electric vehicles. All current UK Polestar EVs use the universal Type 2 (Mode 3) connector — same cable as nearly every modern EV sold in the UK. Older Polestar models may use Type 1; check your charge port shape before ordering. We stock 5m to 30m lengths in 7kW and 22kW ratings, with optional Mode 2 (3-pin granny) cables for emergency charging.

Polestar's range — Polestar 2, 3, 4, 5 — uses Type 2 AC + CCS DC. The Polestar 4 added V2L (selected markets); the Polestar 5 (2025+) is one of the few UK EVs to inherit 800V architecture from the Volvo-Geely platform. Standard Volvo / Geely engineering, with the design language polished.

Connector spec by model

  • Polestar 2 (2020+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 155kW DC peak.
  • Polestar 3 (2024+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. 250kW DC peak.
  • Polestar 4 (2024+) — Type 2 + CCS. 11kW AC. V2L on selected trims. 200kW DC.
  • Polestar 5 (2025+) — Type 2 + CCS. 22kW AC. 350kW DC. 800V.

AC charging speed at home

  • Polestar 2/3/4 at 11kW (three-phase): ~45 miles/hour. 80kWh battery refills overnight in ~7 hours.
  • Polestar 5 at 22kW (three-phase): ~80-90 miles/hour. 100kWh battery in ~5 hours.
  • Single-phase 7.4kW: ~25-30 miles/hour for all models. Standard UK overnight charging.

The Polestar 4 V2L

Polestar 4 (selected trims) supports V2L at 3.6kW from the Type 2 charge port — same spec as Hyundai/Kia. Useful for camping, power tools, holiday-let backup. Compatible with our V2L adapter range. Confirm with your Polestar dealer that V2L is enabled in software for your specific trim before buying an adapter.

800V on the Polestar 5

The Polestar 5 (2025+) inherits the 800V architecture from the Volvo Geely platform. Peak DC charging is 350kW on a 350kW ultra-rapid (Ionity, Tesla Supercharger V4, BP Pulse 300kW). 10-80% in ~18 minutes. Lower-spec Polestars (2/3/4) are 400V — peak ~155-250kW DC.

22kW AC on the Polestar 5

The Polestar 5 is the first Polestar with 22kW AC home charging. If you have three-phase domestic supply, a 22kW cable + 22kW wallbox charges in ~5 hours vs ~14 on single-phase 7kW. Three-phase upgrade rarely worth it solely for this — see three-phase context.

Length recommendations

Polestar charge ports are at the rear-left on Polestar 2 and Polestar 4, rear-right on Polestar 3 and 5. For typical UK driveways: 7.5m or 10m Type 2 cable.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Every current UK Polestar EV uses Type 2 (Mode 3). Older Polestar hybrids or pre-2018 EVs may use Type 1 — check your charge port: hexagonal 7-pin = Type 2, square 5-pin = Type 1.
10m suits most UK home setups. 5m if your wallbox is right next to where you park. 15-25m for awkward driveway layouts.
Match to your wallbox. UK home wallboxes are mostly 7kW (32A single-phase). 22kW only relevant if you have a three-phase supply.
Yes — see our granny chargers range. Mode 2 portable cables work with all current Polestar EVs.
