EV cable holders, hooks and tidies keep your Type 2 connector off the wet ground, route the cable cleanly along the wall, and stop the connector pins corroding from kerbside grit. £20-40 spend, immediate practical value, and the cleanest visual upgrade you can make to a wallbox install.

Why you need one

When not charging, the cable connector typically:

  • Sits on the floor, picking up grit, water and salt.
  • Hangs from the wallbox, stretching the strain-relief over years.
  • Drapes across the driveway, becoming a trip hazard for guests and family.

A wall holder fixes all three. The connector docks securely on the holder, the cable hangs from a hook above (or coils on a separate organiser), the floor stays clear.

Holder types we stock

  • Type 2 dock holder — branded plastic dock that the Type 2 connector clicks into. Holds the connector vertical, pins down. The cleanest look. £20-40.
  • Universal wall hook — simple metal hook, accepts any cable. £8-15. Cheap, effective.
  • Magnetic cable holster — magnetic plate attaches to wallbox; cable holster mounts magnetically. Easy to remove. £25-40.
  • Retractable cable reel — cable winds back in automatically when not in use. Premium option. £80-150.
  • Cable tidy spring-arm — keeps the cable up off the ground while charging. £25-50.

Type 2 dock — the most popular

The Type 2 dock holder is the cleanest visual answer. Mounts to the wall ~5-10cm below the wallbox or near the parking spot. The connector pushes in, latches, and is held vertical with the pins facing down — preventing rain ingress and keeping the contact pins protected. £20-40 typical.

Cable tidy / spring-arm

For cables that get heavy use, a spring-loaded cable tidy holds the cable above the ground while charging. The cable runs through the spring arm, up to the wallbox. Reduces strain on the wallbox's cable gland and keeps the cable off concrete. £25-50.

Retractable reel — premium option

A retractable cable reel mounts on the wall and winds the cable back in automatically when released. Looks like an industrial pneumatic-hose reel. Premium aesthetic, premium price. £80-150 for a quality reel; cheaper ones tend to fail within a year. Best for tethered wallboxes where the cable is permanently attached.

Mounting

Most holders mount with two or four masonry/wood screws. Mount level and at a height that doesn't strain the cable when docked — typically the connector should sit ~30-60cm below the wallbox. Sealed plastic plugs included on most products to plug the screws holes against rain ingress.

Pairing

If the holder is for a tethered wallbox, you don't need a separate cable bag — the cable lives on the wall. If you also use the cable for public charging, pair the wall holder with a cable bag for boot transport.

Wall mounting brackets

For wallboxes that don't ship with their own wall mount, see our dedicated wall mounting bracket range — different product, mounts the wallbox itself.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Yes — we only stock UKCA-marked electrical hardware. Where relevant, products are also CE-marked for EU compliance.
Anything connected to your fixed mains wiring should be installed by a qualified electrician — Part P of the UK Building Regulations is mandatory for electrical work in dwellings.
If this is for an EV charging circuit, yes — BS 7671 (18th Edition) requires Type B RCD protection. Type A and Type AC are not sufficient because EV inverters can produce DC fault currents that A/AC RCDs can't detect.
In-stock items ship same-day if ordered before 16:00 on a working day. Standard delivery is next-working-day across mainland UK. Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and remote Highlands take 2-3 working days. Free delivery on orders over £50.
30-day returns on unused, unregistered items in original packaging. We refund the full purchase price minus original outbound shipping. For items installed or registered to a customer account, only the manufacturer warranty applies.
